Celine Boutier at home on Le Golf National...full results

Paris 2024 OlympicsIGFGolf.org

When many hear the name Celine they naturally think of the French Canadian super star Celine Dion, however this week in Paris they think Celine Boutier..

The only French pro to own a major ( Evian Championship ) she is already revered by her fellow pros like Mathieu Pavon and Victor Perez, and after a sensational opening -7 65 when only 12 players broke par, she is the golfing story in Paris today and will be all week as the nation continues to celebrate these breath taking 2024 Olympic Games.

Having honed her skills as a youngster in the French golf academy she played Le Golf National daily, she knows the course and it's greens intimately.

World #1 Nelly Korda (E 72) made four 3 putts saying the "greens on the course were way slower than the practice facility" and the rest of the field averaged 74.1

Brooke Henderson opened +2 74 and her Canadian Olympic teammate Alena Sharp was in with a creditable -1 71.

However its all about being French this month, in this storied city where from a sporting perspective, football (soccer in North America) is king, it is Celine that has the crowd passionately singing La Marseillaise and chanting Allez Celine !!

To have her on the podium come Saturday afternoon, with the spectacular closing ceremony in the shadow of the Eiffel tower to follow on Sunday would be fitting, or as they say "magnifique"
