Cockerill makes cut with clutch birdie at the last...Investec South African Open... leaderboard

DP World Tour : Investec South African Open Leaderboard

Canada's Aaron Cockerill knows how to keep all his family, friends, sponsors and fans on tender hooks.

Aaron Cockerill

With the 36 hole cut moving from +1 to E the 31 year old from Teulon, Manitoba had an opening round with 3 birdies and 3 bogey's E72 heading into today and was on the same path with a front nine 2 birdies, 2 bogey's E 35.

Playing on the cut line always adds pressure, especially when he opened the back nine with 6 straight pars, just one mistake can make the difference.

He had made bogey 5 on the 16th yesterday and when he did it again moments ago, to move to +1 he was out of the weekend.

However a clutch par 3 at the 17th, meant birdie or bust at par 5 18th. He made birdie there on Thursday and as we all watched our computers today,,, up popped a red 4, birdie 35, 35 72 E and in for the weekend. !

The leader after 36 holes is Sweden's' Jesper Svensson 68 67 -9.

South African Casey Jarvis 66 70 -8 is joined by Italian Matteo Manassero 68 68 -8 and Joakim Lagergren 65 71 -8.

There are 13 players within 4 shots as this version of the South African Open continues.
