Tough starts for Henderson/Sharp in round 1 at Tokyo 2020... full leaderboard

Tokyo 2020: Women's Golf leaderboard here.

With the heat and humidity soaring into the mid 40's*c (over 100*f), the Women's Olympic golf tournament got under way on the same Kasumigaseki GC that hosted the men last week.

Both Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp got off to decent starts, -1 through 9 holes for Brooke, even for Alena, but ran into bogey troubles on the back to finish with +3 74's T47, 8 shots behind the leader from Sweden, Madelene Sagstrom -5 66.

Like the Canadian men last week they've put themselves behind the eight ball early, so will need to make some birdies in Thursday's 2nd round to get back in position to be able to compete this weekend.

" Only 1 birdie n the card today at the 5th, and 4 over on the back nine, I didn't feel like I was 4 over worthy, had some good looks that were rubbing the edges, so hopefully I can clean that up a little tomorrow" said Henderson.

Alena felt she played solid all day, but a bogey, birdie, double bogey (missed a 3 footer) put a damper on her round. " That's a bad taste in my mouth to finish like that, especially after a really good drive in the fairway, so we'll take the positives from today, pound some drives on the practice range on move on to tomorrow"

World #1 Nelly Korda is 2nd with -4 67 along with India's, Adita Ashok.

Tomorrow Alena is off at 7.41 in the 2nd group out, while Brooke is off at 8.25 local time.
