Graham DeLaet, Nick Taylor, Ryan Yip...Good day for Canadians..

Long gone are the days when Mike Weir and Lorie Kane were the only two Canadians we were reporting on in the pro game of golf. With Mike fighting to regain the form that saw him at #11 in the world with 15 wins, a Masters title and a Lou Marsh award topping his glittering resume and Lorie leading a contingent of women that included Dawn Coe Jones and Gail Graham, Canadian golfers have stepped up to the tee box in recent years, and yesterday was a prime example.

Charlie Hoffman topped the field on day one in Houston with his -8 64, but north of the border it was the play of Graham DeLaet -5 67 T10 and Nick Taylor -4 68 T21 that made headlines.

Other Canucks: David Hearn -2 70 T64, Adam Hadwin -1 71 T83, Mike Weir +4 76 T133

As is often the case on the LPGA tour it is an international contingent at the top, and their are two Canadians in that mix.

Japan's star Ai Miyazato and Spain's Azahara Munoz lead a crowded scoreboard at -5 67, the Canadian story is led by Alena Sharp -2 70 T14 and Brooke Henderson +1 73 T60.

With 2 rounds in the books there are 9 more Canadians you may never  have heard of still in play led by Chris Hemmerich from Kitchener 66 71 -7 4th and Elliot Whitley 66 73 -5 T8.

Later on today Rod Spittle will be our lone Canadian at this week's Champions Tour in Biloxi. Stephen Ames is not playing, and Jim Rutledge is out of options, needing to Monday qualify or a sponsor's exemption to play.
