So Matt McQuillan plays his first ever PGA tour round with Michael Thompson, former world #1 amateur in 2008, who played the Hooters Tour last year and qualified like Matt via Q school and also Tommy "2 gloves" Gainey who won Big Break VII on the golf channel and played the Nationwide Tour last year..Matt gave up on golf following 2006 for personal and financial reasons, but last year decided to give it one more try, playing most of last season on the EGolf Tour. He is from Kingston..

David Hearn is is from Brantford, allow he learned to play up at Pike Lake and he is back on tour for his 2nd term having secured his status by finishing in the top 25 of the Nationwide Tour money list last year. In 2005 he finished 196th on the PGA tour
His elbow injury has cleared up and he told me in a text that "this time around I will know all the courses, where to stay etc etc" which he expects will give him a better shot at success
He is playing with Michael Putnam who T6 at Qschool and played on the Nationwide last year and Peter Tomasulo, another Nationwider who was 23rd on their money list last year

Chris Baryla, hasn't played on tour since the 2010 Shell Houston Open following which he gave in to a nagging back and had surgery. He was granted a major medical exemption for 2011 but as you will remember went out to Q school and gained full status there by T11..
He plays with Kevin Kisner who finished 11th on the Nationwide tour last year with a win and a 2nd place to his credit, and Zack Miller, another Nationwider who T6 at Qschool

EUROPEAN TOUR

Joburg Open

Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club

europeantour report... The European Tour brings its South African sojourn to an end this week with the richest of the country's four co-sanctioned events, the €1.3 million Joburg Open.

Following hugely successful tournaments in Malelane and Durban before Christmas, followed by last week’s event in East London, the city of Johannesburg takes centre stage this week and the beautiful Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the Joburg Open sees Charl Schwartzel return as defending champion looking to win for the fifth time in his homeland.

The first round is in the books already and here is a europeantour report...

Martin Maritz and Tyrone Mordt began the Joburg Open with nine under par rounds of 62 to share the lead after the opening day.

And while Mordt's bogey-free round on the West Course at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club was impressive,Maritz's score on the more difficult East Course was truly sensational.

Only four of the day's top 26 scores came from the East Course - players play both courses over the first two days, with all the weekend's action on the East Course.
