Schwartzel's 61 gets him into a tie for the lead in Joburg.. Play underway in Hawaii

Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club has 2 courses, the east and west, well one was really the Kensington GC, but they decided to amalgamate when a housing developer acquired some of the land that course was on.

The west course is the easier of the two and I just watched Charl Schwartzel flirt with 59, settling in the end for a -10 61 and a tie for the lead at -13 with Garth Mulroy (RSA -7 64) and Jamie Elson (ENG -7,64)

Schwartzel is 32nd in the world, a graduate of the Ernie Els golf academy, and this year he has already had 2 seconds and a T4 in 3 events, and he is the defending champ here.. I fully expect him to become a top 20 player at least.

His father, George, was a fine amateur and his brother Adrian has caddied for Charl and is apparently a fine player himself.
Schwartzel has already won the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit 3 times and has won 6 times around the world
He got his tour card when he was just over 18.

Most of the field have completed round 2, the remaining few will finish Saturday morning, weather permitting. 3 hours were lost today due to summer thunderstorms, and more are in the forecast for the weekend.

Mulroy and Elson's 64's were on the tougher East Course where the final 2 rounds will be staged.
