Ryder Cup week in Wales.. way more than just golf !!

While it's my favourite event in golf every 2 years, it must just be a blast for these 24 pampered pros who for once are not playing for themselves, but their country / continent for the ultimate in bragging rights.

These guys never need another dime, they drive the best in cars, they live in mansions that we can only dream about, their families and their family's families are all secure, rich and safe. They are feted every week with the best every tournament organizer can offer and that ranges from behind the scenes tickets to the latest Broadway smash hit, to snorkeling in Maui with giant sting rays and everything, including the Alps in between.

But put a little history and some team play and some bragging rights on the line, all for no financial gain, and we have the best 3 days in golf.... Except it's really 6 days for these guys and here is some idea of  the comradeship they enjoy before Friday's Foursomes are even played from my pals at the EuropeanTour,Roddy Williams and Gordon Simpson

Ryder Cup stars join galaxy of international celebrities at Welcome to Wales

The countdown to The 2010 Ryder Cup will enter its final, energetic phase in the iconic sporting setting of Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium as the players and Captains of Europe and the United States take a bow at the Welcome to Wales concert on September 29.

Captains Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin, plus all of the 24 players who contest The Ryder Cup just 36 hours later, will be introduced on stage at The 2010 Ryder Cup celebration concert starring international stars Dame Shirley Bassey and Katherine Jenkins and hosted by Catherine Zeta Jones and TV presenter Steve Jones.

Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins, Lostprophets, Only Men Aloud and Shaheen Jafargholi and The Mark Jermin Stage School will all perform during the 90-minute show. Guest presenter Catherine Zeta Jones makes a welcome return to her homeland to deliver a special opening speech for this very special concert to celebrate The 2010 Ryder Cup.

Twenty four global golfing superstars from both continents, and their partners, will enjoy the warmth of a stirring Welsh welcome under the gaze of honoured guests, HRH The Prince of Wales and the Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales, at the Millennium Stadium.

PRINCE CHARLES TO VISIT THE RYDER CUP

The Ryder Cup is set to be given a Royal seal of approval when His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visits The Celtic Manor Resort in the build-up to the 38th biennial contest between Europe and the United States of America.

The Prince of Wales will attend part of the second official practice day on Wednesday September 29 and will meet respective Team Captains Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin at The Twenty Ten Clubhouse as well as Jim McKenzie, Director of Golf Courses and Estates Management of The Celtic Manor Resort, before undertaking a Tour of the complex’s vast Tented Village

The visit to The Celtic Manor Resort is part of a full day of Ryder Cup related activity for The Prince of Wales on Wednesday September 29.

Following the course visit, His Royal Highness will attend an official Ryder Cup Dinner at Cardiff Castle where Captains Montgomerie and Pavin will introduce him personally to the 24 men who will make up the two respective Ryder Cup Teams.

Then, to end the day, His Royal Highness will attend the Welcome to Wales Celebration Concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff where personalities such as Katherine Jenkins and Catherine Zeta Jones will perform in support of the evening’s star guest, and one of the Prince’s favourite performers, Dame Shirley Bassey.
