As I wrote here yesterday Corey Pavin has selected Woods, Z Johnson, S Cink and Rickie Fowler as his 4 captains picks.
In an interview from the New York Stock exchange he said he had kept an open mind until play was finished last night and he sat down with Julius Mason and his vice captains and came to a conclusion fairly early in the evening.
So the final team is Mickelson, Woods, Cink, Stricker, Mahan, Furyk, D Johnson, Z Johnson, Overton, Kuchar, Watson and Fowler
Pavin was very calm, said all the right things even hinted that we will see something a little different in the team uniforms that his wife Lisa has been planning for the last 2 years.
It is a deep and talented squad but to be honest who in there really scares you to play against ?
Mickelson blew up again yesterday when he had the chance once again to become #1 and where have we seen that before !!
Tiger even at his best has a marginal Ryder Cup record at 13-10-2 and as Rory McIlroy said in a recent interview " I fancy my chances against him, I think we all do "
I expect Stricker, Furyk and Cink to be rock solid, I would even put Z Johnson and Hunter Mahan in that group.
D Johnson, Bubba Watson, Jeff Overton and Matt Kuchar are all very talented but huge "ifs" under the extraordinary pressure that will exist at Celtic Manor,pressure none of them has experienced at this level, and Walker Cup play is not at this level.
As I mentioned yesterday I am glad he picked Fowler who will not be wearing his trademark over sized cap but who is a good investment for the future and will bring some colour and flair to this team and may well provide that spark that Kim provided for this team in Valhalla..
They will need it !!
