Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. ????!!

Get used to it. Wales is a beautiful, green mountainous country with a whole whack of names that even we Scots who speak the Gaelic can't pronounce... This one is apparently the name of a Railway stop !! As in "..Next stop Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch "

Here are some of the dishes that the teams will be eating  ( or at least offered ) during this Ryder Cup.

Some traditional Welsh food...

Welsh Cawl  Traditionally it is a straightforward lamb (or beef) and vegetable stew.

Laverbread  Laverbread is made from laver, an edible seaweed found along the coast of Wales

A hearty Welsh breakfast ?? A Welsh breakfast comprises grilled Welsh bacon, locally produced pork sausages, black pudding, eggs (may be poached, scrambled or fried), laverbread, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms (fried in butter) and baked beans. In some areas cockles may be on the menu too.

Bara Brith  Bara Brith is a glorious cake-like fruited bread. Its name translates to 'speckled bread'.

Welsh Rarebit   one of the most famous dishes.. It's really fortified cheese and toast.. Here's how you make it...1. Thinly slice or grate the cheese.

2. Put the butter and flour in a small saucepan and cook for a few minutes.
3. Add the ale, seasoning and cheese.
4. Cook over a low heat until the cheese has melted. Do not allow to get too hot.
4. Pour over the toast and put under the grill for a minute. Dust with cayenne or sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce and eat at once.

Roast Welsh lamb with gin and cranberry, accompanied by stuffed, baked onions

Clarkies  'Clarks Pies', also colloquially nicknamed "Clarkies" or "Clarksies" are well known meat pies in South Wales and the West of England.

Welsh Ale  there are many breweries, all producing fine ale and lagers. Perhaps the most famous is.. S.A. Brains   Brains is Wales' most famous drink. Like Guinness in Ireland, it's become the toast of a nation

There are fish pies, potato pies, all kinds of soup many using leeks..

Still knowing Americans as we do, I'll bet they have already been asking where the local Denny's is !!

Next I am going to look at who I think some of the key players on either team are.
