As always the media scrutiny of an event this big means that no stone goes unturned..
Months ago Rory McIlroy was interviewed, and it was after Tiger had just shot +18 at the Bridgestone. He was asked if he fancied his chances playing against Tiger at the Ryder Cup and he said (and I paraphrase) " Sure, I think any of us would right now, the way he is playing" That got some headlines which have been gathering steam now that they are in Wales.
So yesterday he was asked again about those comments and answered by reiterating what a wonderful golfer Tiger is, perhaps going down as the best of all time and reminded the questioner Tiger had just shot +18..
Then he was asked if the ' aura' of Tiger was gone now and again he was effusive in his praise, but said that when he first met Tiger and played with him he realized what a normal guy he was apart from his ability at golf, and did say that it was inevitable with all the scandal surrounding him that some of the aura may have dimmed.
So this is being turned around to be blunt, that Rory is giving the US Team and Tiger fuel to burn by dissing him !!
That is so ridiculous that this morning the European team all showed up on the first tee wearing Rory wigs and hats with the big hair just, as Monty would say in his presser ' to let Rory know he is very much a part of our team and has done nothing wrong "
Much ado about nothing !! Must be a slow week in Newport !
