Disastrous 45 front nine sinks Hearn's chances at the Players

PGA Tour Players Championship leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/competition/2017/the-players-championship/leaderboard.html

In yesterday's post "Hearn in great shape for a run at the Players" which sadly has been eaten somehow or another by the Blogging God  (I can't find or recover it after a hour of trying everything) I wrote about how much David embraces TPC Sawgrass, and how his patient playing style pays off for him and how he felt the course really suits his eye..

Well, with the wind blowing, driving up the scoring average by nearly 4 shots, David made par at the first, remaining at -5 just 4 shots out of the lead, but then reeled off 4 bogey's, a double and a triple at the ninth for a front nine of 45, I can only imagine that must be close to his worst 9 of his career.

To his credit he continued to battle on the treacherous back nine, all pars with a birdie at the 16th for 35, but sadly the dreaded 80 has knocked him right out of contention.

He goes into today's play 70 69 80 +3 T54 along with Adam Hadwin 71 72 76. MacKenzie Hughes is T25 67 75 74 E.

Hearn was not alone in his struggles on this windswept moving day. Jon Rahm of Spain was five shots behind but missed the 54-hole cut with an 82. Matt Kuchar took a 9 on the 14th hole and shot 81, his highest score ever on this course. Phil Mickelson shot a 78.

The leaders at -9 are JB Holmes and Kyle Stanley, with Louis Oosthuizen, a noted wind player next at -8.

Two of the better rounds of the day belonged to Si Woo Kim 68 to move him to -7 followed by Emiliano Grillo 67 -6 and a rejuvenated Ian Poulter. The best round belonged to Pat Perez who got around in -6 66 earlier in the day, he has moved to -4.

The cut fell at +2, the highest in 30 years, so a second cut was required after play last night. The weather forecast predicts more of the same today, wind gusting up to 30kph, so don't expect the score to be much lower than -10.

Some of the big names : Jason Day and Rory are at -1, while Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler are E.

58 : the number of balls in the pond at the 17th so far this year.
