Nick Taylor surges into contention at the Sony Open.. full leaderboard

PGA Tour : Sony Open leaderboard here.

After steady opening rounds of 70 68 -2 Nick Taylor just made the cut on the number, at the bottom of the field. All that changed on Saturday when he ran off 3 birdies in a row at 2,3 4 and added a bogey and another birdie at the par 5 9th to go out in 32.

He was on a roll as he added 5 more birdies on a bogey free back nine of 30 to tie for the low score of the day at 62, which surged him up the leaderboard 55 places at -10 T9, now just 5 shots off the lead held by 2nd year American pro Hayden Buckley looking for his 1st win 67 64 64 -15.

Taylor, now 30, from Winnipeg but grew up in Abbotsford BC, has slipped to #257 in OWGR, currently 56th in the Fed Ex Cup rankings. The 62 matches his career low round. He owns 2 career wins, his latest in 2020 at the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm where he got hot over the weekend.

He is off the 1st tee today in the 3rd to last pairing with Will Gordon and Nate Lashley at 9.40 local time.

Weather  mostly cloudy, 74*f, morning calm, breeze light 12mph ESE for the leaders.

He showed some form in the Fall wrap around series with a T6 at the Fortinet Championship in mid September and followed that with T19 at the Sanderson Farms 2 weeks later. At the end of October he T23 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Corey Conners 69 66 68 -7 is T32, while Adam Svensson 69 69 67 -5 is T51.

So its all to play for today, remember Collin Morikawa lost a 6 shot lead last weekend to finish 2nd to Jon Rahm. Neither are in this field where 9 of the top 15 have never won.
