Let's get this straight. Only four guys can win the season long Charles Schwab Cup, but anyone can win this week's tournament at the Phoenix CC.
Bernhard Langer looking for his 6th, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els and Miguel Jimenez will settle the Cup
After the opening round, Furyk, Mickelson, Kirk Triplett all lead with -6 65, Mickelson the fan favourite after his stellar college career at ASU.
Langer has hurt his back, but still shot -3 68, Els is in with 68 as well and Jimenez has a -1 70.
Watch for the fairytale story of Kiwi Steve Alker who had no status when he turned 50 in July, He Monday qualified for the Boeing Championship in August and kept playing with top 10 finishes. Then he won last week at the Timber Tech Championship in Boca Raton and has opened with -5 66 just a shot off the lead.
