WGC HSBC in China, LPGA Sime Darby in Malaysia this week

The first round scores are now in from the European Tour WGC in Shanghai and the women are at the same Kuala Lumpur complex in Malaysia the men played last week. They’re playing the East Course, a week after Justin Thomas successfully defended his title on the West Course.

Sweden's Rikard Karlberg playing in his first WGC event, opened with -8 64 for a one shot lead over Rickie Fowler as 40 of the world's top 50 are on a very soft Sheshan International course in Shanghai. It has been raining all week and it continued today.

Karlberg won the 2015 Italian Open to qualify.

Defending champion Russell Knox is at -6 66. Rory McIlroy with his new Nike woods is at -1 71 and Race to Dubai leader Danny Willett opened with a disappointing +2 74.

The leader is Amy Yang with a -8 63.
