Hideki Matsuyama 66 65 -13 has made 19 birdies in 36 holes in the rain and cold of Shanghai on the Sheshan International course to lead the field by 3 shots as they head into the weekend.

Defending champion Russell Knox is T2 after a 68 with Bill Haas who shot a 67. Both are at -10.

Meanwhile Rory McIlroy, was about the same as Thursday from tee to green but he made some putts today and had only bogey on his way to 66 -7 total.

The course and the cold windy weather are ensuring the course is not as easy as Matsuyama is making it look. For example Adam Scott shot an 80, Kevin Kisner took a 9 on the 18th for an 80 and he was second here last year, while Si Woo Kim shot 81.
