This week on the European Tour there are two events, the Joburg Open being played on two courses the tougher east and the west on the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington GC and the Eurasia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, a Ryder Cup event between the European Tour and the Asian Tour captained by Darren Clarke and Jeev Milka Singh

At the Joburg Open a birdie on the last moved Justin Walters to the top of a crowded leaderboard as he took a one-shot lead after the first round after he fired a -7 65 on the East Course but he had a chasing pack of six hot on his heels.

Swedes Michael Jonzon and Johan Carlsson and South African Haydn Porteous shot 66s on the East Course, while English pair of David Howell and Anthony Wall and Zimbabwean Mark Williams carded 65s on the par 71 West layout.

A field of 210, the biggest of the season, had gathered in Gauteng with three places at The Open Championship available to non-exempt players who finish in the top ten.

The Eurasia Cup begins on Friday..
