Europe trounce Asia to win EurAsia Cup

EurAsia Cup final results http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2016/tournamentid=2016003/leaderboard/index.html#JdUcbOw4UfwEdED3.97

For the three days of this EurAsia up in Kuala Lumpur it was sweltering hot, unfortunartely that heat never transferred to the members of Team Asia who moments ago were trounced 18½ to 5½ by the European squad led by captain Darren Clarke and veterans Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.

Poulter who just thrives on match play was first out again in the Sunday singles and he beat crowd favourite Malaysia’s Danny Chia 4 & 3 at the Glenmarie GC.

Then Lee Westwood and Andy Sullivan were next to put blue up on the board beating Nicholas Fung 7 & 6 and Thongchai Jaidee 4 & 3 leaving the Asian hopes of a fight back in tatters.

Danny Willett made the victory official with his 3 & 1 defeat of Byeonghun An and for the record victories for Matt Fitzpatrick, Chris Wood, Kristoffer Broberg, Victor Dubuisson and Søren Kjeldsen completed the rout.

India’s Anirban Lahiri did beat Shane Lowry 2 & 1 and Korea’s K.T. Kim beat Bernd Wiesberger 3 & 2  while young Jeunghun Wang birdied the last to halve his match with Ross Fisher

Clarke's team was just too strong. They won the fourball and foursomes sessions 4 ½ to 1 ½ on both days before winning nine singles matches and halving one out of the 12 on the final day and I must say, much like the Presidents Cup is for the USA team, this EurAsia Cup is great experience for the young European lions like Matt Fitzpatrick, Andy Sullivan and Victor Dubuisson.

In 2014 Team Asia fought back to tie the Cup 10-10, hopefully when the matches return to Malaysia in 2018 they will put up a better performance, to ensure this event becomes compelling.
