Weekend" Invitationals" have the best players..

There are two unofficial/official events going on this week, very lucrative Invitationals, and if you were wondering why Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, GMac and Martin Kaymer were not in the Hong Kong field with Rory, well they are playing right noe in South Africa, The Nedbank Challenge in Sun City at Gary Players course, a 12 man field paying $1.25m to the winner and a mere $250,000 for finishing last..

Somehow, although I can't see why, points accrued here count in the European Tour standings for Ryder Cup etc..although the prize money does not count in the Race to Dubai, because it is by invitation only.

update...1130am  Defending champion Lee Westwood birdied 18 for a 34,34 -4 68 to tie for the lead with Charl Schwartzel 37,31 -4 68 after round one. Luke Donald was tied with them until he doubled the 17th and had to settle for -2,70.

The worst score of the day was Darren Clarke at +2, 74.

Meanwhile on the other side of the world in California, Tiger has his Chevron World Challenge at a Thousand Oaks on the Sherwood CC, where he has invited 17 guys including Kuchar and Woodland, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler and Bubba to join him over the weekend for a mere $5m purse.

Last year you will remember GMac holed a monster on the 1th to catch Tiger then beat him with another on the playoff hole. Play gets under way later this morning..

This is an unofficial event, just another big payday for the lads !!
