Rory wins with a flourish in Hong Kong

Rory McIlroy has just holed out from the greenside bunker on his 72nd hole to win the UBS Hong Kong Open and keep his chances of catching Luke Donald in the Race to Dubai alive with a final round of -5 65.

You will see his fist pumping, yelling reaction, ala Tiger of old, on all the highlight reels. Renton Laidlaw said it reminded him od Seve at the Old Course in 1984.

McIlroy finished two clear of France’s GrĂ©gory Havret, who was also round in 65, and now heads to the Earth Course in Dubai needing a second consecutive victory and Donald to finish outside the top nine to finish on top of the Race to Dubai.

I’ve wanted to win this tournament so badly since that play-off in 2008,” said McIlroy, who has now finished second, second, sixth and first in the last four years at Fanling. “I’ve had to wait a couple of years to get there, but to get this trophy in my hands is very special.

The win will keep him at world #2 ahead of Lee Westwood who is leading the Nedbank Challenge by 4 shots as I write.
