Here is my all encompassing wrap of Friday's play, including scoreboards and brief story lines from Hong Kong, Sun City, Thousand Oaks, Canadian results from PGA and LPGA final stages of Q School, and 2nd stage on the European Tour.
First before I start, although Sun City (Nedbank) and Thousand Oaks (Chevron) do count for world ranking points, I disagree they should since they are invitational, small field events and the sponsors, who garner world wide publicity have no control over which of the players they invite will or will not attend.
So while Tiger had a nice round yesterday (-5, 67), and despite the world wide headlines that has received, just because it's Tiger and despite the full blown coverage by the Golf Channel for whom Tiger is the lifeline..... this is no more than a very lucrative, unofficial exhibition match with only 18 invited players in the field.. so while it is fun and interesting to watch, as is Sun City... I encourage you not to place any importance to the result of either.
UBS Hong Kong Open
Round 3 is in the books overnight and I watched a lot of it. The par 70 Fanling course continues to be tough, in particular the greens are hard and with the pins tucked getting close to them was not easy. The weather was flat calm and sunny and there were some good scoring, as mentioned YE Yang had a putt for a tie of the course record -6 64 which just missed on 18.
A third round 67 gave Alvaro Quiros a one shot lead over Peter Hanson. Quiros, who on both previous days had shared the lead with Rory McIlroy, carded three birdies in a bogey-free effort which took him to -10.
McIlroy, however, had to fight back from consecutive bogeys on the front nine to sign for a level par 70, 5th, and in danger of missing out on the top-two finish he needs to stand a chance of catching Luke Donald in The Race to Dubai.
Swede Peter Hanson shot -5 65 to charge firmly into contention at -9, while his score was matched by former US PGA Championship winner Y E Yang, who shares third place with Thailand’s Pariya Junhasavasdikul (67) at -8.

Nedbank Challenge at Sun City
There are 2 events going on at the same time, the Nedbank challenge and the Nedbank senior challenge which wraps up today. Play was suspended due to a big storm blowing through the Pilanesberg hills for 90 minutes and has just resumed at 740am est.
Defending champion Lee Westwood got down to business with three birdies before play was suspended on the third day.

Chevron World Challenge
TigerWoods hit a half-dozen extraordinary shots Friday in the Chevron World Challenge on his way to a -5 67, giving him a three-shot lead over Matt Kuchar and K.J. Choi going into the weekend at Sherwood Country Club.
It was the second straight event that Woods had the 36-hole lead, albeit this one is an unofficial exhibition of only 18 players. Three weeks ago at the Australian Open, he was one shot ahead until a 75 in the third round. Woods wound up in third place at The Lakes, his best finish of the year.
Woods had two eagles, and nearly had a third with a flop shot from behind the 13th green that he was still talking about long after his round. Not even a double bogey on the par-3 15th hole when a gust knocked his ball into the water could keep him from a comfortable lead after two rounds. His 67 was matched by Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson.
