PGA Championship back underway after 2 fog delays

Remember the poll question above this post is 'Should Corey Pavin select Tiger to his Ryder Cup team?" Please go up and vote.. Thankyou...

Play was suspended for three and a half hours this morning, as the fog rolling into Whistling Straights off Lake Michigan encompassed the course.

It gradually cleared, and play began but was stopped again after 2 holes when Bo Van Pelt told an official he couldn't see the 3rd green.

Kohler has been in the same heat wave we have here in Toronto, so the lake is obviously colder than the air, thus the fog..

I have been asked to handicap this week and to tell you the truth, I haven't got the 'foggiest'!!  (sorry )

Usually at a major I leave Tiger out of my picks since he is always such an obvious favourite. Now I wait to see if he has found something during this week's practice. He looks good and upbeat as I watch him practice.

Next up Phil Mickelson, who if I must,I would make my favourite to win. Despite his final round 78 last week, he scored well in the 3 rounds before, mainly because of his short game, and more importantly, he had this tournament the last time it was here in 2004, until he faltered at the end finishing T8, letting Vijay Singh in,he beat DiMarco and Justin Leonard.

So then I take Justin Leonard as my dark horse, since he nearly won it in '04 and was in contention last week so is in form.

Vijay says he is playing pain free, obviously plays well here, but despite the fact he has won 20 times since he turned 40, he just can't putt well enough these days to seal the deal for my money. He is off the 10th at around 1240 playing with Tiger and YE Yang, who is of course the defending champion.

Weir and Ames are in the field for us..

The European Tour has 39 players in the field. Their number 1,Lee Westwood is out for six weeks with that calf injury. I expect solid performances from Paddy Harrington, Luke Donald who was 3rd at our Canadian Open and Paul Casey who of course nearly won the Open and is still in form. There are so many to choose from the Euro Tour these days, like the Molinari brothers, Rory McIlroy,Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, and Ian Poulter,  all of whom could win this in a heartbeat and I could also argue since this as linksy a course as you will find in America, it may favour the lads from across the pond who grew up with links golf.

This course is so far removed from the narrow  tree lined fairways last week at Firestone, and also remember there have been 13 winners this year in their 20's including Hunter Mahan last week, and 5 at the other end in their 40's including Ernie and the oldest of the bunch, Steve Stricker who is the home town favourite this week as he hails from Edgerton, Wisconsin, and lives in Madison

The players are back out on course now at 1235pm and playing in perfect scoring conditions, sun, little wind and a soft course. It is very gettable right now, a big break for Tiger and everyone else in this flight.
