Another hits of the 60's week at John Deere Classic... Friday TEE TIMES/ Scoreboard

PGA Tour : John Deere Classic Leaderboard

Do you remember Gary Player "back in the day" on one of his favourite topics " We will witness a day when young fit men will stand on the tee, drive the ball 400 yards, making the par 4's on many of the fine courses we play today just a drive and a wedge, making birdies on all the par 5's, rendering a par 72 to a par 68 !"

Just Gary exaggerating again we said !!!!

Graphite then titanium shafts, trampoline faced Volkswagon Beetles for driver heads, balls that were 2 piece, 3 piece, balata, no balata.

Then Tiger came along with his era, dominating pro golf with that ever improving equipment which made Jack's MacGregor balls he won all those titles with, seem like little round rocks...

Earlier in the spring of 2025, Scotty Scheffler was scuffling a bit by his standards, so he booked himself into the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on his home course TPC Craig ranch, with a week devoid of any competition to practice for the upcoming PGA Championship.

He went around, putting on a clinic for his adoring Texas fans and TV ratings, of -31 strokes under par.. Somewhere, Gary now well into his 80's was holding court .. again !!

Back on June 12, the world's best gathered at Oakmont GC for the US Open, journeyman JJ Spaun changed his life forever, underlining a grueling week with a closing 70' putt across the 72nd green, just to be the only player under par, and just by that stroke.

That won't happen again this year, unless "Mother Nature" is in a foul humour at Royal Portrush for the Open in 3 weeks time.

More of soft touches like TPC River Highlands, the Detroit GC, and this week TPC Deere Run, all providing what Boomer radio stations play, Hits of the 60's..

American journeyman, a respectable member of the PGA Tour "Rank and File" Doug Ghim leads the pack after 18 holes with -9 62 (7 birdies, 1 eagle)

The pack is jammed up behind and I have to go down the leaderboard on this par 71, to T113 to find anyone over par with 72.

83 of the 156 entrants shot in the 60's, another 20 are under par with 70.

T61 at -2 69, would be the cut line, but we still have Friday to play when that will move up. way up..

Canadians

Adam Svensson T61 -2 69

Adam Hadwin T127 +2 73

Ben Silverman T149 +5 76
