Despite a double bogey 7 on her 2nd hole of the day, the 10th, Brooke Henderson battled hard to stay in contention, she added a birdie and a bogey for +2 38 going out, but was all pars with 1 birdie in for 34 and a +1 72 T47th on a very hot day at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club.
Although she hit 13/14 fairways and 15/18 greens in regulation it was the old story, 35 putts for Brooke. She hasn't played on tour for nearly a month.
Maude-Aimee Leblanc mixed 4 birdies with 5 bogey's also for +1 72 while 17 year old Amateur Lauren had 5 bogey's, 1 birdie +4 75 T110.
Not the start any of the women hoped for with the cut projected at +1 and the leader Mina Harigae from America in with -7 64. She used only 24 putts in her 9 birdies. The 13 year veteran is winless in over 250 events,
A Swedish amateur Ingrid Lindblad set a US Open record with a -6 65 to sit alone in 2nd.
Annika Sorenstam, +4 75, Michelle Wie +2 73 and defending champion from Japan Yuka Saso +6 77
