PGA Tour: Valero Texas Open : SUNDAY scoreboard here
If you ever wanted a snapshot on the depth of the PGA Tour, I offer this.
Four guys are tied for the lead at -10 going into play this morning. Three of them many casual golf fans have never heard of, and one many thought had retired.
Beau Hossler a young Californian is ranked world #236. He was recently 3rd at Pebble Beach and T16 at the Honda Classic
Brandt Snedeker now 41 has dropped to world #266. Earlier this year "old freckle face" T14 at the American Express
Dylan Frittelli now 31, is the highest ranked of the four at world #119 and is a South African staple on the old European Tour where he has 4 wins. I PGA Tour win and a recent T16 at the Honda Classic
JJ Spaun, all 5'9" of him is 31 ranked world #242 who recentlyT7 at something called the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
As for the 3 Canadians:
Adam Hadwin with 2 recent top 10's to his credit has quietly posted 70 70 71 -5 T21
Roger Sloan who's cut making heroics on Friday I told you about, has posted 74 69 71 -2 T48
Corey Conners finally slipped a little to +3 75 and begins play today T63 at E
Honourable mentions:
Richard Bland 70 71 69 -6 T16 for the 49 year old English rookie,
Luke Donald former world #1 when he won the Race to Dubai and the Fed Ex Cup in one year has declared himself finally injury free T30 71 70 71 -4.
Henrik Stenson T30 -4 is edging Zach Johnson T40 -3 in the "battle of Ryder Cup captains"
Bill Haas who once won the Fed Ex Cup and $11,150,000 in one day and has never been heard of since is 2nd last, 71st 70 71 77 +2
Tiger; Today is the last chance to get into the Masters, where the golfing world is awaiting Tiger's announcement. Under normal circumstances on tour you do that last Friday. I expect he is waiting until Monday to get this out of the way, or maybe even at the Champions Dinner on Tuesday.
