US Senior Open final scoreboard here.
I have been working since last Thursday, didn't have access to my computer so a belated congratulations to a great finish at the US Senior Open in Omaha, by Weirsy and a good week overall by Stephen Ames.
Mike has always featured well in majors, his 2003 Masters aside, he thrives when the weather is tough and the winning scores just a few shots under par. A wind at tornado strength blew through Omaha, destroying stands and equipment, uprooting trees suspending play in the 3rd round for 3 hours, it was a miracle the staff could get the course ready for play to resume.
Jim Furyk, won on the weekend at -7 to become one of only a few to win both US Opens (senior and PGA)
However Weirsy closed with the low round of the day 67 to T2 at -4 along with Retief Goosen.
Stephen who was paired with Furyk was amongst the leaders all week with some stellar iron play and streaky putting, but he got into bogey trouble mid round on Sunday and slipped to 75 to finish 8th +1.
Both veteran Canadians are enjoying banner years on the Champions Tour, Weir in his rookie season has been a top 10 machine, both have won and have ensured their status for the next 5 years at least.
