Negotiating COVID travel restrictions have put paid to our lives for the last 18 months, pro sports including golf are no different, stars like Rory and DJ are among those who would never turn down a chance to represent their country are not going to Japan for the Olympics for example.
However things are slowly getting better, as countries get assurances from organizers that they have strictly enforced all safety "bubble" protocols, and as a result the Toronto Blue Jays for example will finally be allowed to return home to play at the Rogers Center later this month.
This week the Senior Open is all set to go at beautiful Sunningdale GC outside London, England and David Morland is the only Canadian in the field, Mike Weir and Stephen Ames are notable by their absence, I can only assume they couldn't make it to this most prestigious championship.... Meanwhile, high in the French Alps overlooking Lake Geneva, it is the Amundi Evian Championship which has been the 5th major on the LET/LPGA Tours since 2013.
Brooke Henderson who has been as reluctant to travel due to COVID as anyone on the LPGA tour has made the trip and is in the field with Alena Sharp who is replacing Mel Reid who WD. They both will then fly from France to Tokyo to represent Canada at the Olympics.
