With the Ryder Cup looming and the teams finally set, my focus shifts back to the BMW in Denver, leg 3 of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs, and all the rest of golf around the world. Here's what's happening
BMW Championship

The field is down to 70, David Hearn T43 -3 281, despite a fine week at TPC Boston, just got bumped out of the top 70 ending his season while Graham DeLaet moves on into this week. They are playing at Cherry Hills, at altitude outside of Denver, Rory said he hit a 3 wood, 370 yards in practice. This is the course that Arnie won his only US Open on in 1960 beating Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus.
This week the majority of the field is seeing the course for the first time. Cherry Hills isn't in the normal rotation of PGA Tour events but is a par-70 at 7,352 yards lends credence to the fact that to play this major venue well, you'll need to be a long hitter, but as Rory said yesterday, because the ball is flying 15-20 yards farther due to the thin air, you can't just take out the driver and hit it as far as you can.
So look for the guys who are long but can keep it in play, lot's of 350 yard 3 woods, lot's of work in practice to figure out yardages for players and caddies..
Watch for Rory of course, Jason Day, Jordan Speith has 2 top 30's in last 2 events and his caddie Michael Greller worked the 2012 U.S. Amateur here, Mickelson who won the 1990 US Amateur here and is 56th so needs another very good week if he wants make the Tour Championship next week, Chris Kirk won last week then didn't get picked, Kevin Stadler lived Cherry Hills as a teenager and should have won the French Open a month ago, Sergio Garcia has had a hell of a summer and when he is on he is as good a long iron player as there is...

Crans-sur- Sierre GC up in the Swiss Alps may be the most beautiful GC in the world, Scarborough's Jerry Anderson once held the record at -27 when he won in 1984 becoming the first and only Canadian to win on the European Tour ..It has a strong field including Ryder cuppers Thomas Bjorn and Vic Dubuisson.

In Japan, Canada sits alone atop the leaderboard after Wednesday’s record-setting opening round of 9-under par at Karuizawa 72 Golf East. They hold a two stroke advantage over defending champion Korea in the quest for the Espirito Santo trophy.
Their combined score of 135 is the lowest first-round score in Women’s World Amateur Team Championship history. The record was previously held by USA, who recorded a 136 at the 2010 playing in Argentina.
The Canadian trio was led by teen sensation Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont who fired a bogey-free 6-under 66 to record the day’s lowest score.
Augusta James from Bath, Ont., the reigning Canadian Women’s Amateur Champion, posted a 3-under 69.recorded as the team’s second lowest score for the day.
Brittany Marchand from Orangeville posted a 1-under 71 which was discounted as the team’s highest score for the day.
QUEBEC Championship

After a wildly successful week in Calgary, the Champions Tour field has travelled across the country to Quebec at La TempĂȘte Golf Club in LĂ©vis, Quebec. Fred Couples beat Billy Andrade in a dramatic playoff last week.
The tournament, which has been played in Montreal the past four years, has moved to the Capital city region as the Quebec City Championship.

Speaking of the Web.com'er's they are in North Carolina this week for the Chiquita Classic, the second of four events that make up the season-ending PGA Web.com Tour Finals. The field is composed of the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour’s regular season and players ranked No. 126-200 on the PGA Tour.
The tournament not only has a bigger purse, $1 million and 25 PGA Tour tour cards will go to the top finishers over the four-event swing. An additional 25 tour cards will go to the top 25 in earnings on the Web.com Tour
That means this year’s Classic will have some notable players in the field, including three former majors winners: Ben Curtis, the 2003 Open Championship; Trevor Immelman, the 2008 Masters; and 2009 PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang.
