Lee Westwood has played in the last eight Ryder Cups but is far from his best at the moment, although he responded to calls from McGinley to show some form by shooting a final-round 63 at the Bridgestone Invitational last month before finishing tied for 15th at the PGA Championship the following week. In the end he was chosen over Luke Donald to my surprise. McGinley admitted this morning there was nothing to choose between them, and he simply went on Westwood's better form this month.
I have to admit that being such overwhelmimg favourites may just have the European side exactly where the American team wants them. Nobody expects them to win, they are flying way under the radar.. It's the old nothing to lose and everything to gain for the Americans this year..
