Play was under way this morning in the rain at Valhalla off split tees, but as I write water is gathering on some low spots and in some bunkers, so as expected it looks to be a long wet day at this PGA Championship and in fact play has just been suspended..
Lee Westwood shares the lead at -6 65 along with Kevin Chappell and Ryan Palmer while Rory McIlroy who like Westwood had a double bogey on his card is T2 66, along with Henrik Stenson, E Molinari, Jim Furyk and big Chris Wood..
Tiger continued his road back from surgery with a sloppy 74 +3 and with Valhalla now being soaked you will be left with a big, long soft course which generally means low scoring, and in fact makes it more difficult for a player to separate himself from the field because they will all be firing darts into greens that will be holding.
Westwood had missed 4 cuts before the WGC, but he got back into the gym, took some lessons from Sean Foley and after a final round 63 at Firestone he carried that form into this week..He is generally a very good front runner.
Rory is playing just like he has for the last month , smashing that Nike driver, he is #1 in driving stats, carrying the ball 320 yards. He is the man to beat..
Here is the leaderboard http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/pga-championship/leaderboard.html
Westwood of course would like to be a captain's pick for the Ryder Cup and on this form he will make Paul McGinley's decision for him..
Have a look at this US Team, along side Europe and tell me if it doesn't look as weak a team as you've ever seen. No Tiger, DJ, Matt Kuchar has WD this week with back spasm's, Jason Dufner has bulging disc's in his neck, Phil hasn't won a thing this year..
