It was a nice little weekend for Canucks wasn't it, and in tennis and golf, not hockey ! Tip of my cap to Genie Bouchard, Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil (he and his partner Jack Sock actually beat the Bryan brothers in a 5 set marathon to win the Wimbledon doubles title..), Roger Sloan with a gutsy performance in storm ravaged Nova Scotia, and one you may have missed as Calgary's Rick Gibson who has married to and lived much of his adult life in the Phillipines, went out and got his first Senior Tour win, a remarkable wire-to-wire victory at the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open carding a four under par 66 for a 195 total and a six shot victory over Denis O’Sullivan of Ireland and then dedicated the maiden European Senior Tour triumph to his late mother, his number one fan who he lost in March.
Great stuff, I have said all along the Milos will win Wimbledon one day, his big serve is such a weapon on grass, he's only 24, but you can see the difference between him and the top 4 after watching the Djokovic / Federer epic final. The Joker and Nadal, in particular are going to dominate for the next 5 years, which still gives Milos time to catch up to them..
Here is the weekend wrap...

Alstom Open de France
Le Golf National
Paris
You hate to see a guy miss a tiddler on the final hole to lose a national championship, and to be fair Kevin Stadler drove the ball all over Le Golf National, mostly into some very unforgiving rough, and his final round 76 let Graeme McDowell come from eight shots back to retain his French Open title Sunday, shooting a 4-under 67 in pouring rain to win by one shot. He made the best of the tough conditions, making five birdies and a bogey for the lowest round of the day to finish with a 5-under 279 total.
Stadler had to share second place with Thongchai Jaidee, who carded a 72. He still had a chance to win it on the last hole, but he missed a long birdie putt. He then failed to even force a playoff when he missed a three-footer for par

Matt Harmon kept the field at bay to capture his first PGA Tour Canada victory on Sunday, firing a final round 6-under 66 at Dakota Dunes Golf Links to win the SIGA Dakota Dunes Open presented by SaskTel. The 29-year old began the day with a five stroke lead and hardly gave his pursuers a chance, carding seven birdies on the day and never letting anyone get closer than within two shots

Nova Scotia Open

Halifax....
Roger Sloan is going to the PGA Tour next year! He won the Nova Scotia Open on Sunday for his first Web.com Tour title, holding his nerve and holing a 5-foot par putt on the first hole of a playoff with Derek Fathauer. The 27-year-old Sloan, a former Texas-El Paso player from Merritt, B.C., played 37 holes Sunday after high wind from Tropical Storm Arthur wiped out third-round play Saturday and closed with rounds of 71 and 70 to match Fathauer at 11-under 273 on Ashburn Golf Club’s New Course. Fathauer had rounds of 71 and 66.
Sloan earned $117,000 to push his season total to $149,303, which will be good enough to earn his card next year.
