Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp lead Canadian contingent at the Thornbury Creek LPGA Classic

The LPGA tour is playing at the brand new event at Thornberry Creek, the Oneida Nation-owned resort near Green Bay. Many on the tour have shown up to lend their support including Canadians Brook Henderson (71 68 -5), Alena Sharp (67 -1 thru 13), Augusta James ( 71 69 -4) and Jennifer Ha (74 73 +3)

However world #1, So Yeon Ryu, #3 Lexi Thompson and #4 Lydia Ko are taking the week off before the U.S. Women’s Open next week at Trump International in New Jersey.

Aussie veteran Katherine Kirk shot a career-best -9 63, -13 total to take a three-stroke lead in the weather-delayed second round. She only has two wins in 14 years but she took full advantage of the soft course, playing her back nine in a career best -7 29.

Jaye Marie Green shot 66 to get to -10 while long legged Sandra Gal of Germany was also -10 through 13 holes when play was suspended because of darkness.

In Gee Chun, the highest-ranked player remaining in the field at #5, was -5 through 12 holes and as I mentioned #8 Brooke Henderson is also at -5 coming off her gut wrenching runner-up position in last week’s Women’s PGA Championship.
