Classic round from Rosey ties Furyk at Firestone

WGC Bridgestone Invitational scoreboard http://espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard?tour=pga

He's Justin Rose to you and I.. Rosey to all his mates on tour, and after going 30 straight holes without a birdie and starting play six shots behind steady eddie Jim Furyk. he started Saturday with 2 birdies and never looked back, closing with 3 more in his last 4 including a Ryder Cup type bomb from 45 feet on the 18th for a -7 63 on this tough South Course at Firestone where only 15 players out of the elite 77 are under par, but 10 of them are within 5 shots of the lead.

As I wrote yesterday, I didn't think Furyk would falter, he did shoot 69, but he didn't have his pinpoint accuracy off the tee and spent a lot of time on his back nine in the lush rough but in typical Furyk tradition kept grinding away with 6 pars in a row to keep himself in the lead.

At -9, they are two shots ahead of Shane Lowry from Ireland, who had a 67, -7 while Steve Bowditch had an early 63 to show it could be done and he is now in a pack four shots behind with Ian Poulter (65), Henrik Stenson (68) and Bubba Watson (69) all at -5

At -4 are Graeme McDowell (69), Brooks Koepka (68) and Robert Streb (68).

In my Wednesday preview I wrote about the year Jordan Spieth is having, but as it turns out he doesn't have his best game here this week. You have to drive it straight at Firestone and he has struggled hit fairways and as a result didn’t give himself many birdie chances although he did putt brilliantly to salvage a +2 72 to sit 9 shots off the lead at E.

So the stage is set for the final act. With Rose coming from 6 shots back to catch Furyk, all the contenders know it can be done. Will Furyk get his much deserved win here after losing to Tiger in 7 playoff holes in 2001, and blowing his wire to wire win in 2012 with a double bogey at the last, or will Justin get his second WGC win to go with Doral. It will take a 63 or 64 from someone in the pack, but Bubba, Henrik, Shane, Poulter, GMac or Jason Day to name a few are all capable  of that on any given day..

The question is will it be today...

Tune in to TSN 1050 this morning at 8am when I'll join Lins and Pete on the International Sports Report.
