Golf needs Rory to be the story this week

Prior to the Fed Ex playoffs I wrote about them arriving with all the excitement of a dull thud.

Well what do you think so far ? Sans Tiger's star appeal we've had Hunter Mahan at the Barclay's, Chris (who) Kirk at the Deutsche Bank and Billy (who) Horschel last week at the BMW.....Hold me down please !!

Heck they are all nice stories, every week there is a nice story.. but if these Fed Ex Cup playoffs aren't going to be another almighty flop, golf needs this year's player of the year Rory to be the story !

So far in the playoffs he's been T22, T5 and T8,  has been in contention despite a sudden aversion to short putts, but he hasn't sealed the deal.

Rory, Bubba, Hunter, Kirk and Horshel are the top 5 seeds with their destiny in their own hands.. win and they win the Fed Ex Cup and $10m bonus.

Rickie ( T5 Masters, T2 US Open, T2 Open Championship, T3 PGA Championship) winning would be deserving and real nice, Bubba is always popular, and I'm sorry but Mahan, Kirk or Horschel will be as forgettable as say Bill Haas back in 2011....

Rory started his year T2 at the Honda back in February, then in April T7 at Houston and T8 at Augusta. In May he T8 at the Wells Fargo before a T6 at the Players, then after a painful and much publicized split with Caroline Wozniacki he won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, a portend of things to come..

After a visit back home with his mum and 3 weeks off he T23 at the US Open in June then as the summer heated up so did Rory with consecutive wins at the Open Championship in Hoylake, then the WGC at Firestone, followed by the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

His summer of summer's, accompanied in the main by Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia is the story this year, and now it needs to be capped off by a win at East Lake in Atlanta starting tomorrow..setting up the crowning glory in the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles at the end of the month..

Now that's what I call a story, the Rory Story...
