It's another warm partly sunny day at Muirfield and play is already under way, but the leaders are not due out until  910am est

We know what a test Muirfield has set, what we don't know is which one of these guys will pass.. I think that E, 284 will be the winner.

* 900am  The melodic voice of Ivor Robson just said " This is game 41 of the 142nd Open Championship, on the tee from Australia... Adam Scott" and with that after a shake of hands all around including one between Steve Williams and Tiger, the penultimate pairing striped their long irons straight downwind down the narrow first, Scott under the face of the new bunker 300 yds down the left and TW down the high diddle diddle..

Scott made bogey +1, and so did Tiger, now E

* Henrik Stenson made a huge long putt across the first green for birdie, now E


* 910am  Lee Westwood and Hunter Mahan are both off down the middle, both students of Sean Foley, who is watching from home in Florida.  Both par the first

* Poulter eagles 9 to get to +2

* Stenson birdies 2 of first 3 now -1..

* Mickelson birdies the 5th now +1

* Poulter birdies the 11th...+1  -4 on today's round..

* 935am  the 5th hole in this ENE wind needs 2 drivers to get close where as on Thursday with it WSW it was 3wood, 7 iron !!

* remember Westwood has the advantage of seeing what everyone in front of him, not just Tiger is doing..

* Westwood gone from rough right to rough left on the 3rd...depends on lie..good lie, lucky break as he chips on..pin high... misses from 12 feet drops a shot now -2..

* Poulter now birdies 12 !!!! -5 today, now E, which I believe would be good enough to win..

* Tiger is +2 through 4 holes..caught cussing after 3rd shot on 5, " God Damn it !! Fu--!!

* Mahan makes 4 and is back to +1 for the Championship. Mickelson is plodding away with 6 pars and a birdie

* Westwood makes birdie at 5 back to -3, but bogey's at 7 and 8 drop him to -1

* 1055am   Adam Scott leaves eagle putt at 9 in the jaws but birdie puts him to -1 along with Stenson and Westwood..  3 way tie..  # 9 is par 5 straight down wind..

* Poulter bogey at 16 +1.. and he is in the fairway at 18 leaves 9 iron a club short...GREAT LAG ..Poulter shoots -4 67 and is in the clubhouse at +1

* Westwood misses 9th fairway left with an iron he is now 0 for the front nine in fairways hit...He is letting the field back in.

* catches a fairway bunker 70 yards short..splashes out onto green..Westwood makes par to stop carnage  still -1 in the lead...BUT +2 on front nine..

* Zack Johnson birdies 11 to get to E just one shot back...

* Mickelson is still at +1 playing 14th   Big crowd jammed around the lead of -1

* Woods bogey at 10 sits at +2  Keeps missing faiways left off the tee..

* Tiger playing army golf on 11... left.. right..over green, back bunker has to play out sideways..bogey at 11 now +3..

* 1120   ADAM SCOTT birdies 11 is at -2 new leader

* Lee Westwood hits fairway at 10, then 7iron right under the pin 12 feet for birdie..makes par  -1

*1125am   Mickelson makes birdie at 14  -1


* 1130 SUMMARY

Adam Scott leads at -2... Westwood and Mickelson are at -1... ZJohnson E, Poulter Mahan Stenson all +1 with Poulter in the clubhouse..


* 1133   Mickelson round the cup for par at 15 still -1

* Westwood has a birdie chance at 12..just misses but par 3    still -1

* Adam Scott wild to the right on par 3, 13 .... makes great recovery about 12 feet from pin..misses putt drops to -1 
 

* Mickelson at 16 par 3 bad luck ball rolls from 20' from hole all the way back off the green..good chip makes par !!  -1

* Scott bogey's 14 drops to E and while he does Mickelson chases a long 3 wood onto the 17th where he has an eagle putt  *****turning point possible again 17 at Muirfield


* 1159...He makes birdie -2...  MICKELSON has a 2 shot lead heading up 18..looks like Poulter's +1 clubhouse lead is about send him off to the airport..

* Westwood makes par at 14, still +3 today   E for the tourney..with 4 holes to play

* Mickelson drives a 6iron with a draw over the bunker... 15' for birdie at 18

* HE MAKES THE PUTT  66.... -3 IN THE CLUHOUSE... Westwood is the only one who can catch him

* Westwood gets robbed at 15 with a great putt that just misses, still E  He has to make up 3 shots with 3 to play, tough par 3 16th, Par 5 17th and par 4 18th..

* Westwood front bunker at 16...makes bogey...


FINAL   Phil Mickelson has a Double Scotch !!  Scottish Open last weekend now at -3 the 142nd Open Championship... what a fortnight in Scotland
