Open Championship....Westwood leads the race to the wire

Live scoring link click here http://www.majorschampionships.com/open-championship/leaderboard.html

Play is well under way. It's a warm day again, overcast this morning, but the sun has broken through with the breeze still ENE, and it should be another exciting, fascinating day with the leaders not due out until around 9am est, and when I say leaders, remember there are 19 players within 5 shots of the -3 lead of Miguel Angel Jimenez..

These final 10 pairings all listed at est..

Jimenez / Stenson  1020
Woods / Westwood 1010
DJohnson / Laird 1000
Cabrera Bello / ZJohnson  950
Cabrera / Moore   940
Spieth / Clarke   930
Schwartzel / Scott   920
Simpson / Molinari  910
BWatson / Poulter  855
Mickelson / Leonard 845

Muirfield is in charge here and she has been since Monday of this week, yesterday afternoon the field was just hanging on for dear life, so while there are no 64's out there, it means that even par 71 is almost like -4 67 because the average score is over 75..

The Muirfield game plan I outlined on Wednesday stays the same . Keep it in the fairways, out of the rough and bunkers, judge your approaches with care and caution, putt your brains out and stay patient because everyone else around you are having a tough time.

Who can handle Muirfield, who can negotiate these lightning fast 18 holes, who will get the breaks will be the leader at the end of the day..

Remember when Sir Nick Faldo last won here in 1992 he made 18 straight pars....

Any one of these guys would take that right now...

Lee Westwood has been a contender in majors, finishing second or third a staggering seven times. He goes into Sunday with a 2 shot lead over Hunter Mahan (70) -1 and Tiger Woods (72) -1. They are the only three players under par for the championship.

* Three birdies and an eagle for Westwood and 3 turning points in his round. On the par 5 5th he hit driver, driver then holed an 80 footer for eagle...then par 3 16th he is in deep rough left of the gree, Tiger 15 feet below the hole.. Tiger makes par, missing the birdie, while Westwood hacks out, barely, putts onto the green then makes a clutch 15 footer of his own for a great bogey....finally on 17, Westwood made another clutch putt sinking a 12-footer for birdie. Woods made a sloppy bogey after a baffling mistake, shanking his second shot in a fairway bunker.

* Adam Scott has already won the Masters and is again a contender for the claret jug, though this time he'll have to come from behind. Scott matched Westwood's 70 and was at E 213

* Miguel Angel Jimenez faded from contention on a miserable day. He bogeyed four of the first eight holes, then bogeyed the 14th, took a double-bogey at the 16th when he needed two swings to escape a towering pot bunker alongside the green, and a lipped-out putt on 17 gave him another bogey. The 49-year-old staggered to the finish with a 77 and +3 216 total

* This week at Muirfield has been most unusual and as a result a great golf course has turned into a monster under sunny skies temperatures in the 70s F (20s C), with nary a hint of rain. The fairways could pass for paved roads. The greens are as firm as a snooker table.

Expect the same on Sunday, with even more pressure !!
