Open Championship.. Muirfield beats up the field.... Jimenez leads at -3

Live scoring click here http://www.majorschampionships.com/open-championship/leaderboard.html

The south east coast of Scotland is blessed with some of the world's most beautiful beaches, rarely used because of the weather... this week they look like the Riviera..

Skies are blue, sunshine, sunscreen, the slightest of breezes from the NE and the tide is all the way in as day 2 gets under way at Muirfield

The R&A watered the greens late last night, and cut them high so they are half a foot slower this morning..However we know these will continue to be the conditions all weekend and the course as it did yesterday will get browner as the day and traffic on it increase..

Remember the lates yesterday get the favourable early times today..

Tiger and GMac are about to tee off at 444am (est) for example..

Darren Clarke is -3 today through 5 holes and Lee Westwood -2 through 2 early on

1010am   updating ****

*The best round of the morning belongs to Lee Westwood who went out in 31 -5, got as low as -6 before giving a few back including a bogey at 18, but still -3 68  has been the best score so far along with Charl Schwartzel 75 68.. and it puts him at -2 for the two rounds..

*The scoring of this morning's flight has been higher than yesterday's as the course continues to play hard and fast and also because the breeze has changed 180* from the NE..

* Both Mark O'Meara 67 78 and Tom Lehman 68 77 gave back this morning and at 145 they will have to hang around as the cut is expected to fall at +5

* GMac shot 75 71 and at +4 should make the cut

* Graham DeLaet is struggling now +3 today through 8 holes..

* Tiger birdied the last to shoot 69 71 to remain at -2 and he was out early when conditions were supposed to be easier..

* It looks like -5 or -6 will be good enough for the lead, and think how soft and slow Glen Abbey will feel to these guys next week !!!

* Shiv Kapur is +5 through 17 today but should make the cut after his 68 yesterday

* So many guys are gone already, Rickie Fowler, Paddy Harrington, Matt Kucher Sergio Garcia just to name a few

* Zach Johnson is not out til after 3pm local time, I will be blogging off and on all day, your comments are welcome

200pm updating****

* Muirfield is taking this field apart and the weather is benign

* Mickelson just 4 putted #16 from the front edge, earlier Snedeker did the same from 20' on 15..

* Zack Johnson leads at -4, over Angel Cabrera -3 and Miguel Angel Jimenez at -3

* when I left you at 11am 20 players were under par now only 10. !!

* the average score on a clear, sunshine filled day with no more than a breeze to contend with is 4 shots over par.. 75..

* the cut is now out to +7...so Ernie Els 74 74 and Graham DeLaet 76 72 are in at +6

* 75 74 +7 gets Fred Couples in for the weekend, but US Open champ Justin Rose and fellow Ryder Cup star Luke Donald are both out with +10

* Z Johnson 3 putts the treacherous 15th to drop to -2

* Cabrera makes bogey at 15 to drop to -2 and Jimenez leads at -3 and the Spaniard is IN the clubhouse with his, .. Tiger and Westwood are in a big group at -2..

* Mickelson pars 18 and makes 74 to finish +1

* Johnson pars 17 with 5, now Cabrera who made par 3 at 16 and he is on the back of the green with 2 putts for par and he makes it to stay -2..

* in the last 21 groups nobody has been under par

This weekend my money is on Muirfield !!
