I haven't written a lot about a young Canadian who is absolutely burning up the Korn Ferry Tour so I'll lead with him today. Taylor Pendrith 29 is from Richmond Hill. He finished with a personal best -5 66 T2 -10 just a shot off the winning score of American Seth Reeves at the Pinnacle Bank Championship this weekend. What is more remarkable, is that was his 4th straight top 3 finish.
He is currently 3rd on the money list, with the top 5 after this week's event in Oregon getting a spot in the US Open later this fall at Winged Foot which would be a first for Pendrith. In addition the top 25 on the Korn Ferry money list at the season's end earn their PGA Tour cards for 2021-22.

Earlier I wrote about Mike Weir, KJ Choi and Jim Furyk making their Champions Tour debuts. Weir and Choi had steady weeks finishing T27 -6, while Furyk who won the Buick Open on the Warwick Hills course in 2003, outlasted Brett Quigley who made bogey's on his last 2 holes including a missed 2 footer, to win the Ally Challenge 68 66 68 -14 by two shots. He flew out to San Francisco afterwards, where he will play in the PGA Championship this week.

Yesterday I mentioned Justin Thomas who began play on Sunday at the WGC St Jude Invitational in 5th spot 4 shots off the lead, was one who could shoot 64 to make a charge in the ideal conditions, and that's how it turned out.
He fired a 65 to get to -13 for his 13th PGA tour win, three shots better than Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Tom Lewis from England and Daniel Berger. Thomas becomes the new world #1, replacing Jon Rahm who drops to #2.
Canadians: Corey Connors T30 at -4, Nick Taylor T35 -3. Mac Hughes T44 -2 and Adam Hadwin T72 +8.

Danielle Kang 66 73 70 -7 won the LPGA's return from COVID at the Drive On Championship. Several of the top players chose not to fly to Toledo as the virus is out of control again in many American cities. Brooke Henderson chose to stay home, and 10 South Koreans opted to play on their own tour.

Sam Horsfield gets his first win at 2020 Hero Open.. final scoreboard
Sam Horsfield overcame Thomas Detry in a thrilling final day battle to win his first European Tour title at the 2020 Hero Open https://www.europeantour.com/european-tour/hero-open-2020/leaderboard
The Englishman entered round four at Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club with a one shot lead and sat atop the leaderboard almost all day until Detry passed him with a birdie on the 17th.
That was the first time Horsfield - who held a six shot lead at the turn on Saturday - had not been in pole position all weekend but a Detry bogey on the last put him back in a share of top spot.
A birdie on the par five 17th then put the 23-year-old back in the solo lead and he held his nerve up the last to sign for a 68, an 18 under par total and a maiden victory in his 65th European Tour appearance.
Belgian Detry signed for a 66 to finish a single shot behind, three ahead of Swede Alexander Björk, Welshman Oliver Farr and England's Chris Paisley.
Horsfield appeared on the golfing radar at the age of just 13 when he recorded a 59 at his home course in Florida, a score he matched when playing with friends in Orlando during the coronavirus hiatus
Much has been made of Horsfield being tipped as a star of the future by Ryder Cup star and 12 time European Tour winner Ian Poulter when he was just a junior, and the champion revealed he was given advice by Poulter's caddie Terry Mundy on Saturday night.
"I’ll see Terry (Mundy) tonight and I’m sure we’ll have a few beers. Last night I called Terry, we talked about him and Ian being in situations where they’ve had one shot leads or having been leading at a golf tournament. He said ‘go out there and play good golf, if you get beat, you get beat’. I had that mindset today. I thought I’m going to do my own thing, play good golf and if someone wants to catch me, then good for them."

Today Taylor is paired with Hideki Matsuyama at 115 (est) and Connors with Sergio Garcia 105 (est). Heady company these days for the Canadian stars.
Mac Hughes shot E 70 T40 at -1 and Adam Hadwin is not having his best week, T75 +9 after yesterday's 75.
It rained in the morning yesterday leaving an eerie still muggy day, with a soft golf course. There is no rain and not much wind in today's forecast which should make ideal scoring conditions.
Brendon Todd hits the ball straight and putts well, He leads 64 65 69 at -12, the 4th time this year he has had the 54 hole lead, he has converted 2. At this time last year he ranked 795th in the world.

Playing steadily Mike Weir added -3 69 to his opening 70 and at -5 he is T22, six shots out of the lead held by Brett Quigley 69,64 -11.
Weir had 5 birdies, 3 of them on his back nine 34, and 2 bogey's, hitting 8/14 fairways and 13/18 GIR. He has made par 25/36 holes, birdied 8 and only made bogey on 3.

Quigley who shot 64 played bogey-free at Warwick Hills while Carlos Franco from Paraguay also had a 64 to sit a shot behind along with Jim Furyk (66) who along with Weirsy is making debut on the senior circuit. Tommy Armour III with 68 joins them.

I like Furyk's chances today because he won the Buick Open in 2003 and twice was a runner-up. He's played 60 rounds at Warwick Hills and been par or better all but one of them. He keeps the ball in play, letting his scoring clubs and putter do the damage.
So far it's been a good steady debut for Mike Weir considering how excited he is to become a regular again. He looks comfortable, his short game is sharp, he's still fit, as Jack Nicklaus said is" one of the new flatbellies on tour"

Brendon Todd's story of recovery is well documented, and for a guy who nearly quit the game 3 years ago it's rewarding to see him playing the best golf of his career as he leads this elite 78 man WGC St Jude Invitational field into the weekend by 2 with scores of 64 65 -11.
He is scoring so well he now leads the Tour with Bryson DeChambeau posting 10 rounds of 65 or lower this season and has already won twice. Rickie Fowler is 2nd at -9.
Canadians: The record 4 Canucks in the field slipped off the lead a little on Friday. Mac Hughes 68 71 -1 and Nick Taylor 69 70 -1 are T33 that's 10 shots off the lead. Corey Connors was 4 shots better, T43 72,68 E and Adam Hadwin 73 71 +4 T62

Playing with fellow "rookies" Jim Furyk (68) and KJ Choi (72), Mike Weir has opened the new chapter in his career with a steady -2 70 at the Ally Challenge on the Champions Tour at Warwick Hills GC in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Looking as slim and fit as ever, he displayed some of the short game that has been his trademark with 2 birdies and 1 bogey on the front nine and 1 birdie with 8 pars on the back.
He only hit 7/14 fairways, but 15/18 Greens in Regulation or 83.3% and is T1 in scrambling, and he averaged 293.5 yards with his driver.
David Morland III is also in the field and he shot +1 73.
Billy Andrade and Tommy Armour III lead with -6 66 just ahead of 3 players including evergreen Bernhard Langer at -5 67. Ernie Els shot -3 69 with a hole in one and a skinny Monty, who has fought the flab his whole career also shot -3 69, 40 pounds lighter.
Remember Tom Kite? He is one of the older guys who couldn't resist showing up. He ended his day with a snowman (8) in his way to +12 84. Peter Jacobsen was miked up, shot +5 79, Brad Faxon 78, Blaine McAllister 80.
