Casey Jarvis hopes to replicate compatriot Jayden Schaper by securing back-to-back DP World Tour titles after surging into the lead at the 2026 Investec South African Open Championship.

Jarvis produced a flawless round of 64 to catapult himself to the top of the leaderboard at Stellenbosch Golf Club, earning a one-shot advantage heading into Sunday's final round.

The 22-year-old has had a brilliant start to the campaign, finishing third at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December before recording a top-ten finish at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship earlier this month.

February proved a fruitful month for Jarvis as he clinched his maiden crown at last week's Magical Kenya Open presented by absa by three shots.

If he becomes the eighth successive South African to win their home Open on Sunday, Jarvis will follow in the footsteps of Schaper who backed up his Alfred Dunhill Championship victory with success in Mauritius.

Overnight leader Francesco Laporta twice held two-shot advantages during Moving Day, but Jarvis, who claimed his first DP World Tour title last week in Kenya, overhauled the Italian to set the clubhouse target at -11 

Hennie Du Plessis and Laporta both joined Jarvis at the summit after birdieing the 17th, but both men bogeyed the last to sit in a share of second at -10.

Jarvis kept his card clean on Saturday with a clutch par putt at the last, and he said: "I was actually just thinking as I was finishing off my scorecard that could be one of my greatest putts in front of a home crowd, so I think that was a really cool moment. Obviously it's nice momentum heading into tomorrow.

"I really enjoyed it, I played really nicely out there. It wasn't easy. The home support is fantastic and I'm really, really looking forward to tomorrow.

"I started pretty slow, I think I was one under through seven and then everything changed when I chipped in at eight, and I said 'let's go, let's catch the guys at the top', and I did that pretty well."

He added: "I've tried to put last week's win behind me. Every week is a new week and we all start on level-par at the start of the week.

"I haven't thought about it much, I've got a break coming up in the next couple of weeks so I'll think about that then, but right now I'm trying to think about winning this tournament.

Scotland's Hill also finished with bogey to sit in solo 4th at -8, while South African duo Xander Basson and Kieron van Wyk and Kimsey were one further back at -7.

Home quartet Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, Haydn Porteous and Daniel van Tonder occupy T8 alongside Englishman Joe Dean, France's Frederic Lacroix and Spaniard Angel Ayora at -6.

Canadian rookie AJ Ewart played his college golf at nearby Barry University at Miami Shores, 90 minutes away from Palm Beaches, and remembers watching Brooks Koepka play PGA National as a fan.

He took a spot in the spotlight with the round of the day -7 64 is T3 as he looks for his maiden win on the PGA Tour. "Coming into the week I had never played the course, but felt like I knew it just from watching, so somewhat of a home game, feels good !"

Fellow Canadian Ben Silverman who lives 15 minutes away in Jupiter is playing his home course 73 67 -2 to make the cut. What is remarkable is he was the 15th alternative, and didn't know until Will Zalatoris WD on Thursday morning that he was in.

" My focus was I'm taking a week off at home, so if I get in great. After being 15th alternative I knew on Wednesday the 3 guys in front of me were committed to playing in Argentina, then Zalatoris couldn't make it, so here I am, playing with Brooks Koepka."

Mac Hughes shot 75 on Thursday, but rebounded with 65 on Friday moving up 81 places to T27 -2.

The leader remains Austin Smotherman 69 -11 total, three shots clear of Taylor Moore -8 then Ewart and Nico Echavarria are T3 -7.

Francesco Laporta is embracing being in the lead at his "second home" following his second-round 64 at the 2026 Investec South African Open Championship.

The Italian spent three years on the Sunshine Tour between 2013 and 2015, and appeared to utilise his previous experience to great effect as he opened up a one-shot lead over Englishman Nathan Kimsey.

Laporta was one shot behind the four co-leaders after round one, but he carved ahead on his own thanks to seven birdies and one dropped shot to become the only player in double figures -10 at Stellenbosch Golf Club.

Kimsey recorded his 21st successive round of par or better in his flawless 65 to sit at -9, while 2023 winner Dean Burmester 67 is one shot further back in solo third -8

"I played some good golf today. I made some good saves," Laporta said. "This morning there was no wind so I tried to take advantage of that, and the last few holes the wind was coming up so it was getting tricky.

"I like South Africa, I like to play in South Africa. It's been my second home for a long time and this type of course and grass reminds me a bit of Johannesburg. The course is tough, the fairways are tight and there's a lot of rough so you have to be straight. I like it.

"I'm just trying to enjoy it like last week, I'm feeling good and two days to go."

Hennie du Plessis mixed ten birdies and three bogeys in his 63, which will currently earn him a $100,000 bonus through the Course Record Presented by Nexo should nobody shoot lower this week, and fellow South African Herman Loubser are at -7 alongside England's Joe Dean.

Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Japan's Rikuya Hoshino and Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey are one shot further adrift -6 in a share of seventh, while South African pair Casey Jarvis and Branden Grace and Emirati Adrian Otaegui are at -5

One Canadian in contention Cognizant Classic... 18 hole results

Part of the narrative after the opening round of PGA National in the Palm Beaches was how easy the course they once called the Blue Monster was playing.

The owners have overseeded with rye grass, and trimmed the rough as a result according to veteran Billy Horschel,  the course looks greener on TV, in fact its playing softer and without the wind it is very gettable for us pros.

Pretty looking courses on TV, means more people will come to play for the resort owners. (Henderson Park an international private equity realty firm based in London, England)

You can see from the leaderboard there are quite a few names that are unknown to the average fan in the top 10, with most of the marquee players off this week with 2 signature events on the schedule next.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju is a proud Canadian success story in his rookie season, and he leads the contingent T9 68 -3. There are many watching saying "who?"

The Opening round of the Investec South African Open is under way on the Stellenbosch GC under sunny skies 21*c.

Alejandro Del Rey led a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard alongside former winner Dean Burmester, Joe Dean and Oliver Lindell at the 2026 Investec South African Open Championship.

Del Rey set the clubhouse target at -5 after bouncing back from a bogey with six birdies in his 65 before 2023 champion Burmester, Englishman Dean and Finland's Lindell matched the 28-year-old's total.

Home hopeful Herman Loubser, American Johannes Veerman, England's Nathan Kimsey and Italian Francesco Laporta were one shot further back -4 66 while eight players were locked at --3 67 in a logjammed leaderboard.

"Very pleased. At the start of the round it was a little bit tough, I hit a couple of bad shots and managed to fix it," Del Rey said. "Came into the back nine with a little bit of wind, it was a bit difficult, but hit it really well on the back nine and managed to make a couple of putts for a very good round.

"You've got to be very accurate with your irons. I thought I did very well today and hopefully I keep doing that for the rest of the week."

Patrick Reed admitted his first round of the Investec South African Open Championship was a "grind" as he faced the challenge of playing in a new country.

After finishing in 26th on his first start at the Dubai Invitational, the 35-year-old has gone on to win the following week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, lose in a play-off to Martin Couvra at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship and claim his second victory of the season at the Qatar Masters.

The American sits comfortably at the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings delivered by DP World, but he was six off the pace in South Africa after an opening round of +1 71.

"Not great," Reed said. "I never really got comfortable, hit a lot of loose tee-shots and because of that playing out of the rough. Even when I was in the fairway, I just kept hitting the ball high on the face, it just sits so high on the grass.

"So because of that, the distance control wasn't quite what I want to and I felt from tee-to-green I struggled today. I had two short putts that I missed, but besides from that it was a grind.

I grew up watching Tiger and wanting to have that mentality and play as well as Tiger, but also it was fun watching Phil hit those flop shots, so because of that I was always on the practice green hitting the hard chips."

Springbok legend Ernie Els a 5 time winner of his National Championship had 4 bogey's and a double with an eagle 3 thrown in is well behind T126 +4 74.

The story of the South African Open

 The second oldest open competition in golf, the Investec South African Open Championship, returns for its 115th edition this week at Stellenbosch Golf Club.

Not only does South Africa’s national open have a long history, it also boasts a rich past, with the likes of Bobby Locke, Gary Player and Ernie Els having all made their mark on the event over the years. Let us take you through the highlights of this fascinating story

The early years

In 1892, the first South African Open - then known as the South African Tournament - was contested as an exhibition match play event with Denholm Walker winning the inaugural edition, before D G Proudfoot went on to win the title eight years in a row from 1893 through to 1902 (no tournaments were held in the Boer War years between 1900 and 1901).

Laurie Waters and George Fotheringham soon took advantage of it becoming a formal event in 1903 – with the former winning the first 36-hole stroke play edition, and the latter triumphing five times before the outbreak of the First World War.

The Brews era and the emergence of Bobby Locke

The Brews family made their first mark on their national open in 1921, with Jock Brews winning the event for the first time at Port Elizabeth Golf Club. This heralded the start of the ‘Brews Era’ with Jock and his younger brother Sid dominating the golf scene for many years to come - Jock winning four of his national opens and Sid victorious in eight.

Another new venue, Parkview Golf Club, was chosen for the 1935 tournament, and with it emerged one of golf's superstars, 17-year-old A D 'Bobby' Locke. Scores of 70-76-75-75 brought Locke his first title and heralded the start of the ‘Locke era’, which was to last 20 years and see him win his home open nine times and The Open Championship on four occasions.

The Player years

The great Gary Player took over the mantle from Locke and continued to put South African golf on the map, eclipsing Locke’s list of achievements in the process. In the 26 years between 1956 and 1981, Player won the South African Open a remarkable 13 times.

That period included a five-year winning streak from 1965 to 1969, with the last triumph in that run seeing the South African card a sensational final round 64.

A star is born

Player had left a vast void to fill and after his final victory at the South African Open Championship in 1981, the tournament had eight different winners in the next nine years, with five of those champions coming from outside of South Africa. 1992 was to prove another year to remember for South African golf fans, though, as a certain Theodore Ernest Els prevailed less than three years after joining the professional ranks.

Retief Goosen, another future South African Major winner, took the glory in 1995 before Els won the second of his five home titles a year later.

The DP World Tour era

The South African Open Championship has been co-sanctioned by both the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour for every edition barring one since 1997, with a strong tradition of home-grown success continuing via 19 native victories.

Masters Tournament winner Trevor Immelman won in successive years in 2003 and 2004, with Els claiming the latest of his wins in the 2011 edition on the DP World Tour at a staggering 31 under par.

England's Graeme Storm memorably defeated World Number Two Rory McIlroy in a play-off in 2017 but South Africans have won the last seven editions.

A return to Stellenbosch

Now in its 115th edition, this week’s South African Open – golf’s second oldest national open behind The Open, first played as a formal event in 1903 - is being hosted by Stellenbosch Golf Club for just the second time. In 1999, 27 years ago, home favourite David Frost won the title at the club at which he grew up and used to caddie for his father.

The town is 50k east of Cape town along the banks of the Eerste River with below Stellenbosch Mountain.

Naidoo defends

Dylan Naidoo beat Laurie Canter in a play-off to win his first DP World Tour title at his national championship last year. With the pair locked in a share of the lead on -14, and with the final round washed out at Durban Country Club, the tournament went straight to a sudden death play-off. With a birdie at the 18th, Naidoo became a hero in his homeland and qualified for his Major Championship debut at The Open Championship. 

“I felt like I had nothing to lose in the play-off,” said Naidoo. “I just wanted to go out there and have fun and do it. To have my name on the SA Open trophy is unbelievable. It’s like a fairytale."

In-form Reed returns to action as Swing winner

As the top-ranked player in the field, World Number 18 Patrick Reed is the star global name teeing it up as he bids to continue his scintillating form. This marks a tournament debut for the 25-year-old, with South Africa becoming the 20th different country in which he has competed on the DP World Tour. A winner already this year in Dubai and Qatar, either side of a runner-up finish in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the American was confirmed as the winner of the International Swing following the Magical Kenyan Open.

The 2018 Masters champion also leads the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World and has already spoken of his desire to emulate Collin Morikawa and become the second American winner of the Harry Vardon Trophy.

Home heroes take place in stellar field

Days on from claiming his maiden DP World Tour title in Kenya, Casey Jarvis is part of a strong cohort of South African players bidding to maintain a recent history of home dominance. Last year, Naidoo became the seventh consecutive different South African to win the tournament and he is one of five of the last six champions teeing it up alongside the likes of Thriston Lawrence and Dean Burmester. Five-time winner Ernie Els is also among the home heroes, while there will be high hopes Jayden Schaper can win for a third time this season.

Major spots up for grabs

Co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour, the $1.5 million tournament offers a direct pathway into two of golf’s four men’s Major Championships. For the first time in the event’s history, the winner will receive an invitation to play the Masters Tournament at Augusta National in April. 

Further to this, the South African Open also remains part of The Open Qualifying Series, with three places in the field to for The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale available.

Bridgeman staggers to win Genesis Invitational..Final results/prize money

You couldn't blame 26 year old Jacob Bridgeman for being a bag of nerves, what with Tiger presiding over the tournament and the legend Rory McIlroy as his playing partner, at the storied Los Angeles Riviera GC.

As it turned out his huge six shot lead would be just enough partly because Rory didn't put any pressure on him when his putter abandoned him, he was E par through 10 holes, holed a bunker shot for birdie on 12, then finished birdie birdie for 67 -17 T2. $1,800,000

Bridgeman made 2 birdies and 2 bogey's out in 35 then played his last 9 with just 1 bogey 37 for +1 72 (66 64 64) for his first PGA Tour win, and a whopping $4,000,000

Adam Scott 4th 63 $1,000,000  Kurt Kitayama T2 64 $1,800,000 filled the frame.

Its never easy mentally to follow up a really low round, with another, is so often the case, and when you do, you often are the winner.

Aaron Cockerill posted the low round of the day on  Saturday -8 62. Early this morning in a lightning delayed Sunday on the Karen GC he had 3 bogey's and a birdie out in +2 37, however a very steady back nine, all pars with 3 birdies for -1 32 and a final tally 66 69 62 69 -14 T18. 

With 3 missed cuts in 5 starts this season, and all the excitement of new daughter Tegan's arrival on January 31st this is a great start to his 2026 season worth $44.898 cdn and a 43 place move to #106 in the Race to Dubai points.

Casey Jarvis won his maiden DP World Tour title as he rounded off a wire-to-wire success at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open presented by absa.

The South African, who had shared the lead after each of the first three rounds, held off playing partner Davis Bryant in a final round twice interrupted by stormy conditions in Nairobi.

Jarvis had six birdies and rounded off his round of 62 with a second eagle of the day to win by three strokes -25.

Jarvis began with three birdies and a bogey in his first four holes to reach -19, still one clear of compatriot Hennie Du Plessis.

Another gain came at the sixth, with Bryant pouring in three in a row from the fifth to stay on his tail as Jarvis reached the turn one ahead.

Bryant coolly slotted his birdie at the 11th but Jarvis brilliantly eagled the 12th, perfectly judging his putt up the steep slope in front of the green to move two up with six to play, moments before the hooter went to bring the players in as thunder rolled.

The American was back within one after a birdie at the next and another stoppage arrived with the leading pair having teed off on the 17th where Jarvis eventually made a birdie, to Bryant's par, so he was two clear with one to play.

That cleared the stage for Jarvis, who found the fairway and then the green in exemplary fashion on the 18th before rolling in a 15-foot eagle putt to round off a momentous week in style.

The 22-year-old said: "It's amazing, I've actually never won in front of my dad before, I've wanted to win in front of him so badly, and to finally do it when he's here, I can't explain to you the emotions.

"I was so nervous coming down the last two so yeah, it feels great.

"There's not many words that can describe the feeling, I also wish my mum was here but she's back home in the UK. But it's unbelievable, he's been with me through the ups, through the downs. I know this moment doesn't happen often so we're going to celebrate it properly tonight."

The celebrations can now begin in earnest and the Jarvis added: "Only a four-hour flight to Joburg – I feel sorry for the people on the plane because I feel like it’s going to be pretty loud!"

Bryant's birdie left him second outright on -22 ahead of Du Plessis -21 and then Laporta -20. Jacob Skov Olesen's 65 left him -19 along with Kimsey, whose fellow Englishman Matthew Jordan shot 62 to vault up to 7th.

Defending champion Jacques Kruyswijk followed three straight 67s with a 65 to finish -14 and securely in the top 20.

Those words from Rory McIlroy sum up what Sunday morning will be like for the runaway leader, an in form 26 year old American, Jacob Bridgeman who finished T10 at Pebble Beach last week. He hasn't won yet on the PGA Tour. This one would be worth $3,600,000 !!

With all parts of his game working he posted the low round of the day with spectacular shotmaking -7 64 to stretch his lead to 6 shots at -19 194 (66 64 64) He is just a shot shy of the -20 record set by little Lanny Wadkins in 1985.  

Rory is 66 65 69 -13. He is closest. South African Aldrich Potgieter 68 68 65 -12 is 3rd. There is no threat from the weather with light winds and no rain.

Statement from DP World Tour regarding LIV players.

 The DP World Tour has granted conditional releases to eight members to play in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf during the 2026 season.

Each member has accepted the conditions specified by the DP World Tour for their release, which include:

• Payment in full of all outstanding fines for breaches of the DP World Tour’s Regulations.

• Participation in additional stipulated DP World Tour tournaments, as well as associated media activity and promotion.

• Withdrawal of all pending appeals.

• The members who have been granted conditional releases are: The members who have been granted conditional releases are: Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig and Elvis Smylie.

  The conditions these members have accepted will provide additional value to the DP World Tour and benefit to the entire membership. Provided each member satisfies the conditions of their individual releases, no disciplinary action under the Regulations will be taken against them for playing in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf in 2026 and they will retain their membership status.

  The releases apply for the 2026 season only and they are not precedent-setting. Requests for releases will continue to be considered on their individual merits in accordance with the Regulations that all members agree to abide by.

Overnight rain in Nairobi softened the Karen GC, Aaron Cockerill had the round of the day, one of the best of his career, 7 birdies including 4 in a row, an eagle 3 at the 18th just one bogey for -8 62 up 33 places to T9.

Casey Jarvis shared the lead for the third straight day at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open as he and Angel Ayora went into the final round tied at -17

Spaniard Ayora carded a -6 64, his second of the week, but Jarvis' 66 ensured he stayed locked at the top.

Fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis was a shot behind -16 along with American Davis Bryant, with the top eight on the leaderboard all chasing their maiden win on the DP World Tour.

Ayora went out in 33 with birdies at the second and seventh before a run of three in a row straight after the turn took him to 16 under.

His playing partners Bryant and Du Plessis both birdied the last to join him on that mark before the Spaniard slotted in a four of his own to go one ahead again.

Jarvis was coming down the hole in the group behind and was safely in the fairway off the tee, ultimately also making birdie as his eagle putt came up a foot short.

Jarvis, who shared the lead with Niklas Lemke after day one, with Frederic Lacroix through two rounds and now Ayora, said: "I think I played pretty solid, played the front nine really nicely, just didn't make as many putts as I would have liked. Bit of a shaky tenth hole but brought it back nicely.

"(Ayora's) a fantastic player and I think tomorrow we'll both hopefully push each other and we'll see what happens."

Ayora said: "Well today was a nice round, bogey-free, that's an amazing feeling. I'm playing very good and hope to repeat that tomorrow.

Du Plessis recovered from bogeys at the third and fourth holes to shoot 65, with six birdies on the back nine including each of the last three holes.

Bryant was one better on the day, following Friday's 63 with a 64 to also reach 16 under - the 26-year-old has dropped just two shots in his 54 holes.

Francesco Laporta was on his own at -15 under after a 65 while Nathan Kimsey was the first of the leading pack to complete his round, a bogey-free 64 capped by an exceptional up-and-down at the last to record his sixth birdie of the day and reach -14.

Aaron Cockerill reached -13 with a 62, the low round of the day. The Canadian started on the back nine with three birdies and an eagle then responded to a dropped shot at the third by finishing his day with a run of four birdies

Frederic Lacroix shot a second-round 62 to share the halfway lead with Casey Jarvis at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open presented by absa.

At -13 the pair held a two-shot lead over the field as they attempted to wrestle the limelight from Kenya's Njoroge Kibugu, who delighted the home crowd by making the cut with an eagle at the last.

Jarvis' fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis fired a stunning 61, which would have been a course record had preferred lies not been in play at Karen Country Club, to share third place with Spain's Angel Ayora and Portugal's Ricardo Gouveia on -11

After finishing his opening 65 with an eagle to build momentum, Lacroix had four birdies before the turn and the same again afterwards for a brilliant 62.

He said: "I’m super happy about today. I made a couple of good putts and it was just a solid round off the tee with no mistakes.

"This morning was a bit colder, a bit more humid, so the ball is not going to travel that much. Yesterday evening was very hot and dry, and there’s a few out there that are going to be bad – you just hit it and it never stops.

"It’s one of those where if you miss a shot off the tee, you get in trouble very quickly. I think it’s more managing some holes you can be aggressive, sometimes you can’t, especially with different pins. If you live in the middle of the fairway, you’re going to be alright."

Jarvis looked set to lead on his own after adding seven birdies to the ten he made in his opening 62.

"It’s nice putting myself into these positions. Obviously, I get more comfortable with it. I’ve had two wins on the Sunshine Tour (last November's Hyundai Open and Vodacom Origins of Golf), so I kind of know what the feeling is now."

Francesco Laporta and Davis Bryant were a shot further back at -10 with first-round co-leader Niklas Lemke among the group at -9.
