USGA : US Women's Open Scoring
We hadn't heard a lot about Allisen Corpuz who hit a jackpot in the women's game at Pebble Beach with rounds of 69 70 71 69 -9 to win the US Women's Open by 3 shots on the mostly damp, misty week where only 7 players managed to break par. She was under par all week.
She earned her tour card at the 2021 Q school, her father a Pilipino, mother Korean who live in a house on the 7th hole at Kapolei, in Hawaii.
She'd missed the cut in her previous 3 of her 4 previous US Open starts all as an amateur.
She's the first American to lift the Harton S Semple trophy since Brittany Lang in 2016 and if you didn't know how international the LPGA Tour is, only the 7th in the last 23 years. She joins her hero Michelle Wie as the only 2 Hawaiians to do so.
She wins $2,000,000, 10 year exemption at the US Open, 5 year exemptions on the other 4 majors and a 5 year exemption on the LPGA Tour.
Many will question the women's ability to play the big world courses, when only 18 broke par at Baltusrol 2 weeks ago and just 7 this week, however they both were majors and set up that way, and I say traditionalists are happy to see even par or close to it to be the winning score at the major events.
Brooke Henderson wrapped up her week at the spectacular resort on the Monterey Peninsula, in 12th place, 71 75 73 72 +3, very respectable all things considered on what has been considered an off year so far for the Canadian star.
She has made 9/10 cuts at the US Open her best finish T5 in 2015.
