63 was the record for the lowest score ever is golf's majors, and there have been quite a few, by 29 different players, and quite a few close calls at 62... But they were just that, close calls.. until now..
Branden Grace, the 29 year old South African started today T45 at Royal Birkdale, in calm conditions on a soft course that received yet another inch of rain over night... He knew right away scoring was going to be easier, and essential to get into contention..
Driving the ball with an accurate straight penetrating flight and making putts from all over the green, he went out in 29, and just made par at the 18th to come home in 33.. add them up -8 62.. to stand alone in major history.
He is now T2 at -4 with the leaders getting set to tee off.
However mark my words, there may be several more 62's out there today. Dustin Johnson for example is -5 through 12 holes on today's round
