With storms blowing through the Chicago area, the field were finally struggling with the wet and windy conditions at Conway Farms.
After opening rounds of 61 and 63, Jason Day made his first bogey in 20 holes then added three more mixed in with 6 birdies for a -2 69 -20, 6 shots clear of Scott Piercy who had a solid 67 to sit second, and will play with Day in the final pairing.
Rory McIlroy shot 67 -13 to claim 4th place and he will be in the next-to-last pairing with rookie Daniel Berger who shot 70 and is tied with Piercy for second at -14.
