Scotland's "Golf Coast "has had a lot of rain recently, that includes the Renaissance GC which adjoins historic Muirfield just a few miles up the road from North Berwick.
While the most recent forecasts call for no rain on Thursday and Friday, before it returns for the weekend, long time followers of the game in this part of the world will point out two key words for what I expect to become a low scoring putting contest this week,
a "gentle breeze" accompanies the forecast for all 4 days, and as you know, "nae wind, nae golf" is the old Scottish adage.
Two years ago 2022 in a blustery wind Xander Schauffele won at -7.
Rory won last year at -15. in 2021 Min Woo Lee at -18, in 2019 Bernd Weisberger -22, 2018 Brandon Stone -20, none of those were in a howling gale for 4 days.
So with 13 of the top 20 in the world here, Mother Nature will likely present the right conditions for another sub -20 winning score.
Without the wind, there is nothing to separate the men from the boys...

My pick is young south Korean star Tom Kim, who almost missed the event due to a scheduling snafu !!
