Ryder Cup: Europe would be happy with a split of morning foursomes

Ryder Cup scoreboard http://www.rydercup.com/scoring

The Friday morning foursomes got under way on a cool foggy morning in Chaska, Minnesota on the very long Hazeltine course, and as the sun came out and the temperature rose it has become apparent the European squad would be happy to settle for a split.

Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters lost 5 of their first 8 holes before winning the 9th and are 4 down to the very strong pairing of DJ and Matt Kuchar and they haven't hit a fairway yet, so this one will go to the USA.

Spieth and Reed  were 3 up before Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose won the 9th and are on the clock for slow play, so USA is 2 up with 5 to play, looks like a win for what I see as the USA's best team. Rosy and Henrik haven't made anything this morning.

Rory is not at his best yet this morning but little Andy Sullivan is saving him, they were A/S through 13 holes against Mickelson and Fowler who won 7,8 and 9 to overcome the Euro's 2 up lead. Andy has just stiffed a 3 iron to 6 feet on the 230 yard par 3 13th and Rory made the putt to go 1up with 5 to play

Meanwhile Sergio Garcia \ Martin Kaymer won the 2nd hole and still lead 1up through 12 over an uninspired thus far,Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson.

So USA seems to have 2 points in the bag, and the other two are in the balance, so I'd say Europe would be delighted with a split at this point..

Play continues this morning with the afternoon fourballs due to start at 12.30pm.

When the pairings are announced you can see them on the link above..
