Henderson's fine play lost in the scoring sensation of the Asian Invasion at Evian Championship

LPGA/LET Evian Championship leaderboard http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/the-evian-championship/leaderboard

One year before he'd struck a shot at the Open Championship, as he peered out at the rain and wind sweeping over the Old Course at St Andrews, the late great Christy O'
Connor said go "let me sign for even par right now and I'll go home happy"

That sums up the prevailing theory for majors. Even par should be a good score at what are supposed to be the stiffest tests of the game for those four championships (five in the women's game) of the year.

Fast forward to today at the Evian Championship, the last major of the year, staged on this beautiful resort course high in the French Alps overlooking Lake Geneva near the Swiss border.

Brooke Henderson is playing very nicely, 69 71 67 -7 which should have her right near the lead, right ?.. Well she is T8... but she is 14 shots behind the leader, the ever smiling South Korean, In Gee Chun 63 66 65 -21 who in turn is 5 shots clear of the all Asian contingent that dominate the Sunday leaderboard, China's Shanshan Feng 64 67 69 -16, then four more South Koreans who are all playing for 2nd place.

Granted the smiling 2015 US Open champion, Chun, who carries a scorecard and an English translation book in her back pocket, has the opportunity to break the lowest winning score in a major championship, male or female. The record for the women is -19, posted on four occasions and matched by Chun on Saturday. The record for the men is -20, set by both Jason Day at the 2015 PGA Championship and Henrik Stenson at the 2016 Open Championship.

With round four well under way I guess I hope she sets the new mark and is likely to, as they play in a steady rain making the course very soft, on the other hand, like Christy said all those years ago, even par should be good enough to win a major.

Incidently Maude Aimee LeBlanc has had rounds of 70 74 76 and is +3 so far today at +10.
