RBC Heritage
Thursday Apr 12 – Sunday Apr 15, 2012
Harbour Town Golf Links
Hilton Head, South Carolina
Late last year RBC announced they were going to expand their already prodigious expenditure in the golf business when they stepped up to the plate to take over sponsorship of the Heritage Classic at the venerable Harbour Town GL in Hilton Head.
The inaugural event in 1969 was won by Arnold Palmer when it was just the Heritage Classic. Two years later it became the Sea Pines Heritage Classic, before MCI took over in 1987. Last year Verizon decided to drop out due to the world wide recession after hosting the event since 2008, leaving Commissioner Finchem in a real jam, before Jim Little convinced the suits at RBC who gave him millions to sponsor the Canadian Open and sign a stable of stars including world #1 Luke Donald, to spread their brand south of the border and sign a 5 year deal thus saving one of the PGA tour's more popular events..
Canadians Mike Weir, Stephen Ames, Graham DeLaet, David Hearn
Defending Champion.. Brandt Snedeker beat Luke Donald in a playoff.. Donald was also T2 in 2009.
