PGA Tour : Rocket Classic Leaderboard, Tee Times, FedExCup
Despite at $16,000,000 renovation to the Detroit GC that has been an easy birdie fest since Rocket Mortgage took over sponsorship in 2019, ideal weather aided and abetted this stronger than usual field to go low again on opening day.
Peter Malnati the veteran that has made more cuts than events played this season (10/18) found his game for 18 holes at least with a career best -9 61 on the par 70 to lead by 2 shots heading into Friday.
Rickie Fowler, Ryan Gerard are T2 -7 63 with Patrick Cantlay and Pat Fishburn next T4 -6 64's.
Remember as I posted yesterday this week and next at the Wyndham Championship are the last two events before the playoffs begin for the top 70 players.

NW England has been blessed with as sunny a summer in memory, two weeks ago just down the coast at Royal Birkdale you will remember the burnt out fairways and rough,
with Ryan Fox cementing his KIWI legendary status.
Now fast forward to Royal Lytham & St Annes for more of the same weather picture.
Remember in the women's majors this year Nelly Korda won the Chevron Championship and the US Open while South Korean Haeran Ryu has won the KPMG PGA Championship and the Amundi Evian recently beating Brooke Henderson in a playoff.

R&A : AIG Women's Open Leaderboard Tee Times
Brooke Henderson and Anna Huang will represent Canada at the 2026 AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in Lancashire, England.
The championship will be contested from July 30 – August 2, bringing together the world’s best players to compete for the final of the five major championships in women’s golf.
Henderson looks to add another major
Canada’s most accomplished professional golfer, Brooke Henderson, returns to the AIG Women’s Open looking to add a third major championship to her résumé.
The 14-time LPGA Tour winner captured the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Amundi Evian Championship, while also owning two CPKC Women’s Open titles.
The Smiths Falls, Ont., native has enjoyed success throughout her career on links-style layouts and will once again look to contend against the world’s top players at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Henderson is scheduled to begin her championship:
Joining Henderson in the field is Vancouver’s Anna Huang, one of Canada’s brightest young stars. The teenager continues her rapid rise after turning professional in 2025 and earning multiple victories on the Ladies European Tour.
Huang has quickly established herself among Canada’s next generation of elite golfers and will make another appearance on one of golf’s biggest stages this week.

The Detroit weather is a mixed bag over the 4 days, with an unsettled future including sunny, cooler, breezy, hotter and humid with TStorms, rain.

Luke Donald has named Irishman Pádraig Harrington as his third Vice Captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup which will be played at Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland, from September 13-19, 2027.
• Irishman will be part of Team Europe on home soil at Adare Manor
• He joins the Molinari brothers in Luke Donald’s backroom team
Harrington joins the Molinari brothers, Edoardo and Francesco, in Donald’s backroom team for next year’s contest, as Team Europe seeks a third consecutive Ryder Cup victory following wins at Marco Simone in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025.
The three-time Major Champion, one of Ireland’s most decorated and popular sporting heroes, was a player in the only previous Ryder Cup to be played in his home country in 2006.
He represented Europe six times in total as a player - including being part of four triumphs – and was previously a Vice Captain on three occasions before becoming Captain for the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
Harrington therefore adds further experience to Team Europe, as well as strong knowledge of Adare Manor, the host venue for the 100-year anniversary edition of the biennial contest.
“Luke and I arranged to meet up at The Open and chatted about it, and we felt we could strike up a good team again,” said Harrington.
“Obviously, he was my Vice Captain (in 2021), and we have worked together as Vice Captains in the past. And certainly, I feel I've something to give.
“Luke has a very strong team around him already and he felt that we would work well together.
“It's something I didn't expect. I honestly didn't think I'd ever wear the European Ryder Cup logo again. So I'm very happy to be part of it. The Ryder Cup has been a special part of my life. Representing Europe has always been one of the highlights of my golfing career, and to be able to do it again in this situation, especially in Ireland, is special.
“You wouldn't want to miss out with it being in Ireland, so I’m very pleased.
“I think it will be a spectacular occasion and one of the great sporting events to be played in the country. The whole of Ireland will be behind it, watching it, enjoying it and living it.
“The fans are going to be fantastic, and I think the atmosphere will be second to none.
“It's a big occasion for JP (McManus, owner of Adare Manor). He loves to give back to his local community all around Limerick. Adare is just a beautiful place to be and to host a Ryder Cup there adds so much. Next year will really showcase golf and hospitality in Ireland. I think it will be one of the great sporting occasions and anybody who gets the chance to travel there will really have the time of their life.”
Donald said: “Pádraig is someone I thought about quite a lot, especially with it being in Adare. He has a special relationship with JP (McManus) and a connection to the fans, which I think is important.
“I've been around Pádraig in many Ryder Cup team rooms, as a player, as a Vice Captain to his captaincy, and he's been a Vice Captain before in the past as well. So he brings a wealth of experience, and I do love the fact that there's a connection. He understands the Irish crowds and all that goes with having a Ryder Cup in Ireland. I think it's going to be very special for him.
“He's loved in Ireland with what he's achieved in the game, and that will only bring more energy to our team. We'll get the fans even more behind us, and you know I think that can only be a good thing. I’m very excited to have his expertise. He's a deep thinker. I think he's quite different to a Francesco or even an Edoardo. He's a little bit more extroverted. He's going to challenge me. He's going to think about things in different ways and give me things to think about. I think that's a great balance between the Molinari brothers and Pádraig.
“Like anyone who's a part of this team, they truly care deeply about what the Ryder Cup is and what it represents. Pádraig is someone that loves the Ryder Cup, and he's going to put a lot of effort into this. He is still very well known. He's out there competing at the highest level in Major Championships and DP World Tour events. He's very familiar to all the players. They know who he is, and he has so much experience in the Ryder Cup as well. So, it just seemed like a very natural fit to have Pádraig as part of our team.”
Harrington made his Ryder Cup debut at The Country Club in Brookline in 1999 and was ever-present for the next five editions, helping Europe to victory in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010. He contributed a total of 10½ points to the European Team during that period.
He was named as Vice Captain for the first time by fellow Dubliner Paul McGinley for the victory at Gleneagles in 2014, a role he returned to in 2016 at Hazeltine National under Darren Clarke and in 2018 for the victory at Le Golf National in Paris under Denmark’s Thomas Bjørn.
Harrington then led Team Europe at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, which was postponed by 12 months due to the Covid pandemic in 2020.
The former World Golf Hall of Fame member secured his first Major in The 2007 Open at Carnoustie, defeating Sergio Garcia in a play-off. He successfully defended the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale the following year and became the first European to win back-to-back Majors when he added the 2008 US PGA Championship at Oakland Hills a few weeks later.
He has won 44 times across the world, including 15 times on the DP World Tour, finishing as the Number One player in 2006. Since turning 50 in 2021, he has continued to compete on the DP World Tour and in Majors whilst extending his global success into the senior ranks. His 12 PGA TOUR Champions victories include three US Senior Open titles (in 2022, 2025 and 2026) and the ISPS Handa Senior Open in 2025.

Jerry Kelly held his nerve brilliantly down the stretch at The Gleneagles Hotel to claim a two-shot win at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open.
The American entered the final day on the King's Course in a share of the lead with Australia's Cameron Percy but got off to a blistering start and was soon three ahead, a lead he maintained at the turn.
Countryman Matt Gogel was not going to let him have it all his own way, however, and he signed for a bogey-free 63 to set the target at -8, one back with Kelly playing the back nine.
The leader failed to take advantage of the driveable 14th and kept leaving himself a long way from the hole but his lag putting was magnificent and he kept his nose in front, despite struggling to execute a full swing after hurting his back on the sixth.
As the final group stood on the 18th tee in pouring rain and Gogel watched on in the clubhouse, the tension was palpable, but Kelly hit a brilliant drive down the par five and despite finding sand with his second, got up and down brilliantly for a closing birdie, a 68, a -10 total and a third Senior Major title.
Percy, Gogel and South Africa's Darren Fichardt finished at -8, two shots clear of local hero Stephen Gallacher, who carded the lowest round of the week with a 62 -6 total
Kelly was a three-time winner on the PGA TOUR and Presidents Cup player in 2003 before entering the senior game, where he has 14 wins on the PGA TOUR Champions, including two Senior Players Championships.
And he can now add the Senior Open trophy to his collection after it was presented to him by former UK Prime Minister Lord Cameron.
"It's indescribable to win it," said an emotional Kelly, who dedicated the victory to his niece's late husband.
But it's been this Scotland army out here that's been behind me that really brought me through, and I really appreciate the people for getting behind me and just lifting me up when things were going low, saying you've got this and really pulling me through. I really appreciate Scotland itself.
"I learned a lot about myself today, and I wish I would have learned it about 20, 30 years ago. You're never too old to learn, and that's what really pulled me through.
Kelly put on a dogged display down the back nine and his closing birdie was followed by big celebrations on the 18th green.
Percy three-putted the sixth and could not get up and down at the 11th but he made three birdies on the back nine to card a level par 70.
Fichardt recovered from a bogey on the first with gains at the fifth, ninth, 14th and 15th and a closing birdie after a brilliant bunker shot in his 66.
Gallacher started the day ten shots back but was threatening an incredible comeback when he turned in 29 and birdied the tenth and 11th. A bogey on the 12th stalled his momentum, however, and while he added two more birdies, he had left himself with too much work to do.

"The senior Claret Jug is the trophy that I've wanted as an over-50 golfer more than any other. To do it in Scotland at the home of golf and to actually win and get into the Home of Golf at St Andrews, I mean, I'm absolutely speechless.
"To be on this trophy, to be a part of this trophy, to be a part of the R&A, I just love it over here, I really do. It brings it full circle that I didn't do what I wanted to in The Open Championship but to get it done here, I mean, I'm over the moon.

Jerry Kelly and Cameron Percy are taking a share of the lead into the final round of the ISPS HANDA Senior Open after a back-and-forth battle in windy conditions at Gleneagles during Saturday’s third round.
However the wind has subsided this Sunday morning, listed by the BBC weather " Light rain showers and a gentle breeze,18*c ". (officially 8 km/h NW)
The locals call it " Cool, but a bit damp with just a wee breeze"

PGA Tour: 3M Open Leaderboard Tee Times
He is the first in history to win all 3 College awards more than once, Haskins, Hogan and Nicklaus, this Auburn Tiger and former world #1 amateur, went out on Moving Day on TPC Twin Cities and shot -10 61 at this version of the 3M Open.
He leads the field at -20 by 3 shots. He is just 21, Jackson Koivun.
He earned his PGA Tour card through the PGA Tour University Accelerated program, this is only his 3rd full Tour event.
This course is so easy it yielded that 59 on Friday for Michael Kim, and Koivun set another record with just 28 strokes including 2 eagles on his back nine for his 1st 54 hole lead as a professional.
There are 12 players within 6 shots of his lead, so you know somebody is going to challenge the brilliant rookie, I will mention Scheffler is in that group, so don't be surprised to see his name making a charge at some point.
" Obviously 61 is great, just excited to go out there and post my personal best. I feel great ready for tomorrow which I know will be a test from the players behind me"
He did indeed lead the field in Strokes Gained Total.

R&A: The Senior Open sponsored by ISPS.. Leaderboard Tee Times
Jerry Kelly and Cameron Percy will take a share of the lead into the final round of the ISPS HANDA Senior Open after a back-and-forth battle in windy conditions at Gleneagles during Saturday’s third round.
The lead changed hands several times between the final pairing on Saturday but a final-hole eagle from Percy saw the third-round leader regain his position alongside Kelly at the top of the leaderboard after 54-holes.
How it happened
Playing in the final group and with no big early move from the morning starters, Cameron Percy began the round with his overnight three-shot cushion intact. An immediate bogey saw the gap narrow, and after a double-bogey at the fourth found himself briefly tied at the top for the first time with Kelly, but very quickly regained an advantage.
Kelly had managed to get to -7 with a birdie at the third but immediately bogeyed the fourth and then gave away two more shots at the fifth and eighth holes to make the turn at -4 and two shots adrift of the leader.
Both players made brilliant birdies at the tenth to keep the lead at two shots, made good recoveries at the 11th, but a mistake from the tee left Percy scrambling at the 12th while a birdie for Kelly meant a two shot swing to see them draw level at -6.
Back-to-back bogeys from Percy meant the next swing went in favour of Kelly, whose third birdie in four holes at the 13th gave him his first time leading on his own. The American’s lead soon doubled to two strokes thanks to a mistake from Percy at the 14th, but two holes later the Australian was able to half the deficit with a birdie at 16.
After trading pars at the 17th, both men approach the 18th hole with a very different tactic. Percy opted for a huge 405 yard drive, while Kelly went for a rescue down the fairway from the tee, getting a great kick off the downslope and ending at the top of the ridge between two bunkers.
Despite being 99 yards behind Percy, Kelly’s second shot was brilliant, landing roughly 30 yards before the green and running up to around 15 feet from the hole. While Percy was further away with his approach, it was the overnight leader who became the first man to climb back to -8 with his eagle, while Kelly’s effort slid by the right of the hole and he ended his round with a birdie from a third round 67.
They said.
Kelly, who is already a two-time Senior Major champion said " “That was different, felt different. hit the ball different. You know, I'm glad I started off with a solid birdie. You know, just a three-putt, leaving it short on the first one which kind of was the theme of the day, even downhill, I was leaving it short.
“ To would be one of the most special things at this stage of my career. Like any player, I might treasure that above all else.”
Percy reflected on the opportunity tomorrow brings, and said that he was happy in the end after a day where he felt like he was doing everything wrong.
“Very happy with the end there. Struggled all day. I couldn't hit it. I couldn't chip it. I couldn't putt it. Then with misjudging wind I pretty much did everything wrong. So to finish birdie, par, eagle, was very nice. I'm not out of it anymore. So that's good.
"Winning the British Open, normal British Open would be incredible. But at my age and with these guys I'm playing with to win a Senior British Open here would be pretty cool."
Summary
Both at -8, the pair are three shots clear of Peter Baker, who leads the chasing pack at -5 after a 67 that included four birdies in his last five holes.
One shot further back at -4 is five-time DP World Tour winner Darren Fichardt, with Ernie Els, Pat Perez and Marcus Brier one behind him on -3.

The Kings Course at Gleneagles designed by James Braid in 1919 through the rolling hills of Perthshire has been a legendary test all these years, and with the wind up at "20 miles an hour" in the words of on course reporter Jay Townsend, scoring has been a real battle this morning.
There are only 12 players under par, and only 3 of them are in the red on their rounds so far.
36 hole leader Cameron Percy is +3 today through 6 holes and he is still in the lead at -6 to give you some idea.

Michael Kim stole the show, albeit on a less than challenging TPC Twin Cities course, making 5 straight birdies on the front 9, then 4 in a row to finish the 59 in style with a 25 footer.
He is now the15th player to make the magic number.
" I just told myself, hey this is the moment to get into the record books, so lets go for it, let's step up and make some really good shots. When you hit a putt that goes exactly as you saw it is awesome, I felt like that all day out there."

"All eyes are on the undisputed world #1 Scottie Scheffler of course" is a typical beginning to many posts, perhaps unaware the rest of the world outside his fans in America are reading.
T13 Scott Scheffler -7 65 70 is his score this week, but they still have him lurking albeit 7 shots behind on one of the 3 easiest courses on the PGA Tour, with 22 other players ahead or even with him seemingly insignificant.
Of course it is just this type of bias that always fuels the European Ryder Cup team, especially when he goes 1-4-0 as he did at Bethpage last year.

Cameron Percy will take a three-shot lead into the weekend at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open after a brilliant back nine of 33 in tough conditions at The Gleneagles Hotel.
The Australian entered day two with a one-shot advantage but with wind adding to the firm and fast conditions, the King's Course was a much tougher proposition than it had been on Thursday.
On a day when nobody went bogey-free, Percy looked like he too could fall victim to the layout with bogeys on the fifth and eighth before a birdie on the ninth steadied the ship.
A chip-in on the 13th then sparked an excellent closing run and further gains on the 14th and last saw the 52-year-old card a 68 and get to -9
American Jerry Kelly matched Percy's lowest round of the day with a 68 to sit at -6 two shots clear of a pair of Open Champions in Ernie Els and Henrik Stenson and Austria's Markus Brier -4
Percy has yet to claim a senior win since turning 50 in May 2024 but he has made all 81 of his cuts on the Champions Tour and in 2025 finished in the top ten at this event, the Senior PGA Championship and the U.S. Senior Open.
He now heads into the final 36 holes with a chance to break his duck and he revealed the difficult nature of the course and the conditions may be the key to his success.
"Obviously very happy," he said. "It's such a hard golf course. You've got to concentrate on every single shot. There's no easy holes or anything. You can lose your ball on every shot.
"That's what I like. It keeps me tuned in, if that makes sense. "Yesterday I hit it everywhere I was looking, so it was pretty easy.
Today was way harder trying to judge how much the wind would hit stuff. I got it around okay. That was the difference, I think."
Stenson turned in level par with the help of a miraculous recovery on the ninth but made a gain on the 15th before taking advantage of an enormous drive down the last in a 68 of his own.
