What's up with Brooke Henderson ?..Live scoreboard Palos Verdes Championship

LPGA Tour: Palos Verdes Championship leaderboard  here

Brooke Henderson is so good, we always expect to see her in contention, and wonder why when she's not. Hardly fair for sure, all golfers go through patches when for whatever reason their game is a little or a lot off.

Recently, Brooke has WD due to an undisclosed "illness", missed the cut and now after a 3 bogey, double bogey, one birdie T122 +4 75 she is facing another missed cut, projected at E, today.

She hit 13/14 fairways and 14/18 greens in regulation, but a season high 36 putts highlights the problem.

With Asian Aussie Minjee Lee in the lead --8 63, Maude Aimee Leblanc is T21 -2 69.

Maddie Szeryk continues her recent struggles T36 +6 77, the same score as lefty Megan Osland.

Mike Weir defends his title this week at Insperity Invitational... live scoreboard

PGA Tour Champions: Insperity Invitational leaderboard here

The senior circuit is in Houston this weekend for the Insperity Invitational won by Mike Weir in 2021. It was his 1st PGA Tour Champions win and it was reduced to 36 holes due to heavy rain earlier.

He and John Daly were tied after Mike had missed birdie putts at 16 and 17. However Daly who was playing ahead watched his 9 iron approach into the 18th catch a gust of wind, splashing into the water.

The resulting double bogey 69, opened the door for Weirsy who put his approach 15 feet away, his 66, 68 -10 was good for a 2 shot win.

Mike Weir

He tees off at 11.54 1st while Stephen Ames 11.54, 10th.

Canadian Aaron Cockerill coming off a T3 last week at the ISPS Handa, was in the featured afternoon group along with fan favourite Richard Bland and Kenya Open winner Ashun Wu. The wind picked up dramatically for the late wave.

Aaron had a bad day, 39.41 80 +8  T148th  The lead at -6 means the  cut +4

Cockerill T3 at ISPS Handa Championship in Spain... final results

DP World Tour: ISPS Handa Championship in Spain.. Results

Local hero Pablo Larrazábal claimed his seventh DP World Tour title - and his first on home soil - after reeling off five birdies in a row around the turn to win the 2022 ISPS Handa Championship in Spain by one shot.

Aaron Cockerill

The popular Spaniard began the final round at Infinitum's Lakes Course in a tie for sixth but catapulted himself into the lead with birdies at the fourth, seventh, ninth, tenth, 11th, 12th and 13th.

His only bogey came at the difficult 15th but he did not let that derail his challenge, responding with an outstanding birdie on the 16th and following that up with another gain at the last to sign for a 62 and set the clubhouse target at 15 under par.

But with the trio in the final group - Adrian Otaegui, Hennie du Plessis and Aaron Cockerill - all just two strokes behind Larrazábal with three holes still to complete, he faced an anxious wait to discover his fate.

He was able to celebrate his second victory in as many months, though, after his challengers could not force a play-off.

Fellow Spaniard Otaegui finished alone in second on 14 under after notching a birdie at the 18th, with Du Plessis and Cockerill another shot back in T3

Larrazábal said: "What a day. But I knew that my golf was there.

"I couldn't make any putts the first three days but I told my girlfriend last night that she had to choose the clothing for the (winning) pictures!

“I knew that I had a low one in my bag and that's what I did. Today I holed putts and that was key. I mean, to shoot 62 in windy conditions with the flags out there, it was good.

It was another great week for Cockerill who lost his DP World Tour status, but has already had a T2 at Magical Kenya Open now a T3 and over a 103,000 euro he is well on his way to earning his card back, 25th on the DP World Tour rankings

After his 62 on a weather delayed Saturday left him with the overnight clubhouse lead he started Sunday with 3 straight birdies before a bogey at the 4th held him to a -2 32 front nine.. A killer double bogey 6 at the par 4,10th stalled his progress, but by 3 straight birdies and he was in contention at -13 just 2 shots behind Larazzabal,  however straight pars from 14 in weren't quite enough to catch the leader for a chance at his 1st DP World title..still a great week and a spot in the Catalunya Championship this week.

Aaron Cockerill with clubhouse lead the weather delayed ISPS Handa Championship in Spain.. full leaderboard

DP World Tour: ISPS Handa Championship in Spain

Aaron Cockerill matched the lowest round of his DP World Tour career to set the clubhouse target on a weather-affected day three of the 2022 ISPS Handa Championship in Spain.

Aaron Cockerill

Play was initially suspended at 12.48pm local time, before the leaders had teed off, and four hours and 12 minutes were lost before the field took to Infinitum's Lakes Course again.

Upon the resumption, Canadian Cockerill completed a 62 to get to ten under moments before the hooter sounded again at 6.58pm, with no further play possible for the day.

A severe hailstorm and the threat of lightning throughout the day meant that 17 groups would return to complete round three on day four, with the final group left with 13 holes to play.

That group contained on-course leader Scott Jamieson, who was 11 under after making a birdie and a bogey in his first six holes.

Cockerill is enjoying an excellent season so far despite not having full playing privileges, making four cuts from five events and achieving a career-best finish of second at the Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa.

He started the day nine shots off the lead but crept up the leaderboard with birdies on the second, fourth and fifth to turn in 31.

Another gain came on the tenth and he picked up further shots on the 13th and 14th before an approach to 12 feet saw him eagle the last and leapfrog into second place.

“It was an awesome day, I played really well the whole day," he said.

“The last is a gettable hole, coming in with the wind so you’ve got a long iron and I was able to stay aggressive and keep it a little left of the hole there. The putt just hung on and it was that kind of day, and it was a nice finish.

“I was just chilling out, just trying to stay awake during the delays, I think I almost fell asleep in the locker room and a lot of guys were doing the same thing.

“I like this course. I got through the Qualifying School here in 2019 so I have good memories here.

"I feel like I played well the first two days, I didn’t get as much out of the score as I could have and things came together today."

Overnight leader Jamieson failed to get up and down on the first but birdied the third with a ten-footer and that extended his lead to three after Pulkkanen had dropped a shot on the second - but Cockerill trimmed the advantage with his big finish.

“On the first I hit a bad wedge shot and then it was a tough up-and-down,” said Jamieson. “I hit a good putt but it just didn’t go in. It was pretty solid after that.

“We’re only really halfway through the tournament aren’t we and there’s a little wind forecast on Sunday and I don’t know what it’s going to be like for those 12 or so holes in the morning. So I’ve just got to play the golf that’s in front of me the best that I can and see what it all adds up to.”

There were 24 players within five shots of the lead

The "Two Adams" stall after 1st round T28th at Zurich Classic... full leaderboard

PGA Tour: Zurich Classic of New Orleans full scoreboard  here

"Go low or go home" is the old adage and it's never more true than in team play that id featured this week on TPC Louisiana 30 minutes outside the French Quarter in New Orleans, especially under the ideal conditions they played in on Thursday's fourballs.

Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa teamed up for a record -13 59 to set the standard for a one shot lead over a bunched field.

Dubbed the "two Adam's" Hadwin and Svensson combined well to go out in -5 31, but stalled with just 2 birdies and all pars, back in 34 -7 65 and T28th, as was the other Canadian Michael Gligic and his American Partner Ryan Armour.

The teams select their "walk up music" for example old guys Henrik Stenson and Graeme McDowell have selected "Wake me up" by Avicii.

Suggestions for the "Two Adams" who light heartedly practised foursomes earlier this week playing blind folded, were topped by the Hip's classic "New Orleans is burning

There are 80 teams, only the top 35 will make the cut tonight, it is counted as a PGA Tour tournament winners get the 2 year exemption but not an invite to the Masters nor any Fed Ex points, but they do get into the PGA and Players Championship.

Canadian bogey barrage at the windy LA Open... full leaderboard

LPGA: Dio Implant LA Open leaderboard here.

It's not often that Brooke Henderson is T116 at anytime in a golf tournament, but after a tough start to her title defence at the LA Open that's where she is, 10 shots behind the lead.

Beginning at 8.21 local time with Canadian rookie Maddie Szeryk she made an opening bogey, but bounced back with a birdie 4 at the 2nd, However a triple bogey 6 at the par 3 4th and another bogey at the 8th saw her out in +4 39. With 2 more bogey's at 11 and 12 she was in real trouble before she steadied herself with a birdie 4 at the par 5 13th and pars the rest of the way for +5 76.

On what was a breezy day she drove 13/14 fairways, hit 13/18 greens in regulation, but a season high 36 putts hurt her cause. She warned us in her press conference earlier this week " This course challenges your tee shots, your approach shots and even around the greens "

Maddie Szeryk also struggled on this tough Wilshire GC with 4 bogey's and 4 doubles +6 77 T124 while Maude Aimee Leblanc had 5 bogey's of her own with 2 birdies +3 74 T83.

Brooke and Maddie are in the late wave at 1.21pm today while Maude is early at 8.10 local time. They all will need to play better to stick around for the weekend with the early projected cut line at +2.

American Alison Lee, now 27 and still looking for her first win is the leader -5 66 with the diminutive Japanese Hataoka in a group of 3 at -4 67.

Lee who played her college golf at UCLA, said she was close to quitting pro golf all together, " It was so frustrating for me. I felt lost not knowing what I was doing wrong or right at times, golf was just a big blah !. I'm glad to see the work I've put in paying off, most of it all was mental for me."

Brooke Henderson returns to defend her title at LA Open.. live scoreboard

LPGA: Dio Implant LA Open leaderboard  here

After withdrawing from the LOTTE Championship last week due to "illness" Brooke Henderson returns to LA for the event she won last year, this time it's sponsored by Dio Implants.

Maddie Szeryk is in the field after Jessica Korda had to withdraw and she has been paired with Brooke at 8.21am local time on the difficult Wilshire CC.

Last year Henderson shot a final round 67 to beat Korda by a shot. "The course is a real challenge, you can never take a break, you have to think your way around and play smart, it will definitely challenge every part of everyone's game both mentally and physically.

She also addressed her achilles heel "For anyone who knows me, my short game is a continuous work in progress, especially around these greens, if you miss them you have to trust your short game to get up and down, and the key is making those tough putts for par, and taking advantage of those for birdie"

It was her 10 win, and Henderson fans know she has been playing well this season with 4 top 10's.

Maude Aimee Leblanc is teeing off at 1.10pm

Weirsy in Presidents Cup squad as Assistant Captain

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Today, International Team Captain Trevor Immelman announced his four captain’s assistants for the 2022 Presidents Cup: Canada’s Mike Weir, Korea’s K.J. Choi, Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy, and Colombia’s Camilo Villegas. The foursome will join Immelman at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sept. 20-25.

Weir will make his third appearance as captain’s assistant after serving for Price at the 2017 Presidents Cup and in 2019 for Els. The Canadian has competed in five Presidents Cups (2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009) and was teammates with Immelman in 2005 and 2007. An eight-time PGA TOUR winner, Weir is 13-9-2 all-time at the Presidents Cup and one of five International Team members with 10 or more match wins in competition.

“In addition to being captain’s assistants together in 2019 at Royal Melbourne, I have had the pleasure of being teammates with Mike on two occasions, as well as playing together on TOUR for many years,” Immelman said. “The history we share gives me complete confidence in stating that few people work harder than Mike. I can’t wait to see the impact he makes in those pivotal moments when leadership and tenacity are needed during the week.”

In 2007, the Presidents Cup was staged in Canada for the first time, with Weir delivering a 3-1-1 record highlighted by a 1-up victory over Tiger Woods in Singles. Weir won eight times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2003 Masters – one of three victories collected that season. The 51-year-old currently competes on PGA TOUR Champions, where he notched his first victory at the 2021 Insperity Invitational.

When I think of highlights in my career that really stand out to me, the Presidents Cup always makes the top of the list,” Weir said. “The comradery that continues to grow within this team is irreplaceable. We can all sense the momentum that is building, and it’s been exciting to see Trevor’s incredible dedication and focus on his role. I can’t wait to see what tournament week holds for us and to be a part of the 2022 team.

Choi returns as an assistant for the third time after serving as captain’s assistant to Nick Price when the Presidents Cup made its debut in Korea in 2015 and to Ernie Els at Royal Melbourne in 2019. A three-time Presidents Cup competitor (2003, 2007, 2011), Choi owns a 6-8 overall record and posted a 3-2 mark in 2011 partnered with Ogilvy at Royal Melbourne. Most recently, the pair served as captain’s assistants alongside Immelman in 2019 for the team’s memorable attempt at regaining the Cup.

Set to make his third stint as captain’s assistant, Ogilvy was first selected by Price in 2017 and again by Els at Royal Melbourne. Ogilvy played on three consecutive International Teams (2007, 2009, 2011), where he amassed a 7-6-1 record.

Geoff’s love for his native Australia and for the Presidents Cup are some of the many things that make him a perfect selection as captain’s assistant,” Immelman said. “His golf IQ, calmness and experience of being a major champion makes him a huge asset to our young team.”

Joining Captain Immelman’s roster of veteran leadership as a first-time captain’s assistant is Colombia’s Camilo Villegas. Villegas has one Presidents Cup appearance (2009), contested at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. In addition to being a four-time PGA TOUR winner, Villegas reached as high as No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking and represented Colombia in the World Cup of Golf in 2006 and 2011.

Bringing in Camilo as my fourth assistant captain feels like the absolute perfect way to round out my selections,” Immelman said. “For the International Team, developing a well-rounded team is imperative. When I look at the representation among countries, languages and cultures, my ultimate goal is to blend them as cohesively as possible, and Camilo will help us do just that. Another positive is that he is still competing on Tour, so he is closely in tune with all the players and trends in the professional game.”

Taylor Pendrith out with rib injury..

Thanks to @RickYounger for the heads up that Taylor Pendrith has a rib injury suffered during the Players and is out healing indefinitely. Best hope for the PGA Championship...

Spieth survives furious finish, Canadian scores RBC Heritage.... final results

PGA Tour;  RBC Heritage final leaderboard  here

At one point I thought there was going to be a 9 man playoff, as the ideal scoring conditions and the crowded leaderboard let a lot of players in with a chance, they all came down the stretch posting -12's all with their own chances of winning, all with their own stories on the Harbour Town course at the RBC Heritage.

When it came down to the finish line Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay got it to -13 in a dead heat

Jordan Spieth holds the trophy after winning the RBC Heritage.

Spieth who missed an 18" putt on Saturday had a combination of 2 eagles, 3 putts, missed birdies, all on his way to -5 66 -13 in the clubhouse and watched as all the others one by one couldn't match it then Cantlay (68 -13) missed his chance to win in regulation with a birdie but couldn't.

In the playoff Spieth hit a poor drive and his 200 yard approach bunkered up against the face. Cantlay hit a poor 9 iron approach into a plugged lie. Spieth hit his stiff, Cantlay to 35 feet, game over.

Sometimes in baseball a team gets beat 13-2 and laughs it off knowing they are not that bad, it's the one's they lose 3-2 in the 9th inning that hurt, they look back on all the chances they missed to win.

A lot of players left Hilton Head and this version of the RBC Heritage feeling like they let one get away. 7 players T3 at -12.

Jordan Spieth got lucky, it was his day and he summed it up "sometimes you play well and don't win, others like today you don't play that well and you do"

Canadians : Corey Conners 66 72 68 69 -9 T12, Adam Hadwin 69 69 70 69 -7 T26, Adam Svensson T27 66 73 67 71 T26 -7...Roger Sloan 68 71 72 73 +2 T59 E

Svensson's shot of the day, Varner leads jam packed leaderboard at RBC Heritage....live scoring

PGA Tour: RBC Heritage Sunday leaderboard here

On moving day at the RBC Heritage when all the TStorms predicted gave Harbour Town a miss, Harold Varner made the most of the benign conditions with a 63 to sit atop the jam packed leaderboard by a shot at -10. Varner won with a tremendous 90' putt at the 72nd to beat Bubba Watson earlier this year in Saudi Arabia, a fact missed by most of the American pundits this week who say he is looking for his first professional win.

As for the Canadians, Adam Svensson and Corey Conners moved up to 4 shots off the lead, while Adam Hadwin and Roger Sloan slipped back.

Svensson's card featured 2 eagles, a hole out from 180 yards at the 10th, and a shot of the day candidate, his 275yd approach over the trees and water at the par 5 15th to 4 feet! for an eagle 3 on his way to a -4 67 that moved  him up 10 spots T13.

Conners found the water with his tee shot at the par3 14th leading to a double bogey 5, but had 5 birdies in 8 holes on the front nine leading to his -4 67 to move up a spot, also T13, 4 shots off the lead.

Adam Hadwin was steady with 8 pars and a birdie on the front nine on his way to -1 70 but lost 16 places on a day of low scoring, while Roger Sloan had 3 bogey's on the back nine to drop 33 places T56 with a +1 72 -2 total.

I mentioned the leaderboard is jam packed. In form Irishman Shane Lowry leads 3 players at -10, there is a pack of 4 at -9 including past champion Matt Kucher, then 4 at -8 including Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth and 9 more including the Canadians at -7, jjust 4 back.

WEATHER:  Hardly any wind, mid 70's, partly cloudy means Harbour Town will be under siege today, yesterday I counted 61 players all under par until you get to Roger Sloan's +1 72 in 56th place. There were lots of 65,66, 67's so expect someone to go really low today.

I like Shane Lowry's chances today. He was 2nd at the Honda, 12th at the Valspar and T3 at the Masters and he made 8 birdies on Saturday so I'd say he's as due as anyone in the race.

Adam Hadwin is also T14, 69 69 -4 as he continues his fine play..

Adam Svensson who also opened with a 66, went backwards but still made the cut at T23 -3 after his +2 73 where he made 4 bogey's on the front nine, while Roger Sloan 68,71 is also T23 -3.

Tiger Woods will play JP McManus Pro Am in Ireland before the Open Championship

Tournament organisers have confirmed that 15-time Major Champion Tiger Woods is to participate in the 2022 JP McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor, July 4-5, 2022.

Tiger Woods

Tournament organisers have confirmed that 15-time Major champion Tiger Woods is to participate in the 2022 JP McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor, July 4 – 5.

Woods, who has 82 PGA Tour wins and has led the Official World Golf Ranking for a record total of 683 weeks in his career, will join a world class field of players including Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Leona Maguire, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Mark Wahlberg, Niall Horan and many more. Coming off the back of an unforgettable return to competitive golf at last weekend’s Masters, this will be Woods’ fourth appearance at the fund-raising event which supports charitable organisations throughout the Mid-West of Ireland.

Tournament host, JP McManus, expressed his delight at the news: “Tiger has been a great friend and avid supporter of the Pro-Am for a very long time and we are absolutely thrilled he has committed to play once again in the tournament. His presence at Adare Manor will undoubtedly bring huge excitement to the thousands of spectators and we are very grateful to him for giving up his free time to be with us. We’d also like to sincerely thank all our players, the DP World Tour, volunteers, and ticket cap holders for their continued support of the event as we endeavour to raise vital funds for charities in the region.”

Organisers have also announced a ticket tender for the sold-out event, with 100 tickets on offer at a minimum of €250 per ticket.

For anybody wishing to submit a bid for a ticket (in the form of a cap), or a number of tickets, they are asked to email tickets@jpmcmanusproam.com with their offer, full name, and phone number. The highest bids will each receive the opportunity to purchase the tickets at the offer price they submitted.

The internationally recognised Pro-Am has helped raise over €140 million for charitable organisations in the Mid-West region of Ireland since its inception in 1990 and attracts many of the world’s top players and celebrities to participate at the Tom Fazio redesigned golf course. All funds raised are distributed in their entirety to the beneficiaries.

Celebrating 50 years, European Tour: Nick Faldo overcomes Greg Norman to win 3rd Masters 1996..

With the DP World Tour’s 50th anniversary in full swing, we look back at Sir Nick Faldo’s memorable final-round comeback to win his third Masters Tournament title and sixth Major Championship in 1996.

Faldo Masters 1996-1246919

Faldo, already a five-time Major winner, trailed 54-hole leader Greg Norman by six shots as he entered the final day.

Many predicted Norman, then atop the Official World Golf Ranking, would complete a wire-to-wire victory at Augusta National Golf Club and add to his two Open Championship victories.

However, a brilliant closing 67 – the best of the day – saw Faldo win his third Green Jacket and, as it transpired, his 30th and final win on the DP World Tour.

Victory also saw Faldo, one of the ‘Famous Five’ to transform the fortunes of European golf alongside Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam, become the Tour’s most decorated player at Major Championships – a feat that he still holds to this day.

Playing with Norman in the final group, Faldo reduced the overnight deficit from six shots to four as he made one birdie in the opening four holes while Norman mixed two bogeys with a birdie.

After his first and only bogey of the day at the par four fifth, Faldo immediately responded with a birdie before he rolled in a 20-footer on the eighth to move within three shots of Norman.

A bogey from Norman, who had begun the week by equalling the course record with a nine under par 63, at the par four ninth after a poor approach from the fairway saw the lead reduced to two shots at the turn.

Norman, previously runner-up at Augusta in 1986 and 1987, continued to falter as he bogeyed the 10th and 11th while Faldo, in contrast, continued to play error-free golf to maintain the pressure.

With the duo level on nine under par, the overnight leader then found Rae’s Creek with his tee shot at the famous par three 12th, resulting in a double bogey five.

Faldo, who had parred four consecutive holes, now held a two-shot lead with the Amen Corner stretch of holes nearly at an end.

Faldo set up a birdie at the par five 13th with a brilliant second shot into the heart of the green that followed deliberation over his club selection as he eventually switched from a five wood to a two iron, but his birdie was matched by Norman.

Still two shots clear after the pair both birdied the par five 15th, Faldo made a safe par at the par three 16th, but Norman would record another double bogey as he found the water with his tee shot.

The destiny of the title was now an inevitability, with Faldo four shots clear.

The Englishman, then aged 38, completed his victory which appeared improbable at the outset of the round with a birdie at the 18th.

Faldo, who also made up five shots in seven holes to win his first Green Jacket in 1989 before he chased down Raymond Floyd in 1990, remains one of only three men to have successfully defended the Masters.

In his post-round interview in the Butler Cabin, Faldo said: “In a way it is a credit to the Masters for what you put us through I’m afraid.

“It is the most nerve-wracking golf course in the world, isn’t it… simple as that. We have to play the most precise golf under the most extreme pressures.”

Canadians bow out of windblown LOTTE Championship.. full leaderboard

 LPGA: LOTTE Championship leaderboard here.

No good news for Canadians today from the wind blown LOTTE Championship at the Hoakalei CC on the south shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

Something happened with Brooke Henderson, she was in great spirits leading up to the event, opened with 74 then withdrew citing ""illness". She's not alone, her playing partner Danielle Kang and 4 others also withdrew. The LPGA out of respect for their women, doesn't expound on withdrawals, unless the player publicly says why, eg bad back, sore wrist etc.

The cut fell at +3. Maude Aimee Leblanc 73 75 +4 and Maddie Szeryk 73 75 +4 are also out for the weekend.

The leader, another one of the South Koreans Hyo Joo Kim who is bogey free 67 67 -10 to lead by 3 shots from Aussie Sarah Kemp 68 69 -7.

Of the top 10 players, 5 are from South Korea.

This event wraps up on Saturday.

Slow starts for Henderson. Leblanc at a windy LOTTE Championship.. full leaderboard

 LPGA: LOTTE Championship leaderboard here

If you've ever been to Hawaii you will know the trade winds blow almost every day and yesterday was no different as they picked up at 30mph and buffeted the Hoakalei CC on the island of Oahu making scoring difficult.

Playing the course backwards at 7.44am, Brooke Henderson was out in -1 35 with 2 birdies and a bogey, then after another birdie 4 at the 1st she was in good shape, until those winds picked up, back to back bogey's at 6 and 7 and a double at the par 3 9th coming in with 39, this year's start at the LOTTE Championship wasn't quite what the two time champion had in mind, +2 74 T73 and forced to play catch up.

The lead is -6 66 for the Aussie Hannah Green who made 8 birdies.

Henderson hit 13/14 fairways and only used 27 putts, but just 9/18 greens in regulation. She plays at 12.39 off the 1st tee today with Thailand's Atthaya Thitikul -1 71

Maddie Szeryk

Rookie Maddie Szeryk who is off the 1st at 12.17 today, is T63 +1 73 while Maude Aimee Leblanc (1st tee 1.12pm today) is T96 +3 75.

Defending Champion Lydia Ko was at -3 69. "The wind picked up quite a lot on my final 9 which was the front nine today, so it made it a lot more difficult for everyone."

One of Brooke's playing partners Danielle Kang withdrew with a sore back.

The cut is projected at +1 as round 2 begins today.

European Tour Group celebrates 50 years....read the evolution..

The 2022 season marks the 50th anniversary of the European Tour group, and there has been constant evolution in that time.

To celebrate the milestone, we take a look back at 50 years of driving golf further through our three guiding principles of being Innovative, Inclusive and Global.

When the first official season of what was then the European Tour teed off in 1972, tournaments counting towards the Order of Merit were held across eight different European countries between April and October.

The Tour and its schedule have continued to grow and evolve in that time, with each season now comprising a year-long global schedule which has visited a total of 50 countries and 440 different venues over the past five decades.

The dramatic increase in scheduled tournaments from those early years has come with a growing number of players too, with winners hailing from almost every corner of the globe.

Antonio Garrido 1972

Since May 1972, when Spain’s Antonio Garrido lifted the first Tour trophy at the Spanish Open, there have now been 1916 tournaments, 8468 different players representing 110 different countries, and 557 different winners from 37 different countries.

The first step towards a more diverse schedule of tournaments took place 10 years after the Tour was established, when the 1982 Tunisian Open became the first event to be staged outside of Europe.

The move came as the 27 tournament season extended into November, and just a few years later, the Tour continued its move around the global with the first Dubai Desert Classic – now one of the marquee events in the calendar - in 1989.

In 2020, the addition of two events at Aphrodite Hills Resort marked Cyprus becoming the 50th country to be visited, and in 2023 Japan will become the 51st different country to host an event, with the postponed ISPS Handa Championship.

As the Tour began to expand into new territories, co-sanctioning agreements were forged from the creation of long-standing partnerships with Tours around the world.

The DP World Tour and the South Africa-based Sunshine Tour have combined close to 100 times on tournaments since the first co-sanctioned event, the Lexington South African PGA Championship at the Wanderers Club, in February 1995.

The winner of that first event was the Big Easy himself, Ernie Els. The four-time Major winner and former World Number One remains the most successful South African player in the Tour’s history.

Fellow South African Major winners Retief Goosen, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Trevor Immelman have all secured multiple DP World Tour titles, and with recent winners including Thriston Lawrence, Garrick Higgo, Dean Burmester, Daniel van Tonder and Justin Harding, the partnership continues to help the career development of South African players.

Furthering collaboration within golf’s ecosystem, the DP World Tour announced a Strategic Alliance with the PGA TOUR in November 2020 to partner on a number of areas including global scheduling, prize funds and playing opportunities for the respective memberships.

As part of the agreement, the two organisations will for the first time in 2022 co-sanction three events: the Genesis Scottish Open – the third Rolex Series event of the season - the Barbasol Championship; and the Barracuda Championship.

Launched in 2017 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Rolex’s enduring partnership with the European Tour group, the Rolex Series is one of the most important initiatives in the DP World Tour’s history.

The Rolex Series is the premium category of events on the DP World Tour, comprising five tournaments in 2022, staged in a variety of world-class golfing locations around the globe, each with a minimum prize fund of US$8 million and 8,000 DP World Tour Rankings points available.

This season’s campaign has seen wins at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic for Thomas Pieters and Viktor Hovland respectively, with the Genesis Scottish Open, BMW PGA Championship and season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, to come.

Last year, reigning Open Champion Collin Morikawa ended the season by sealing his first Rolex Series win at Jumeriah Golf Estates, becoming the first American to top what was then the Race to Dubai Rankings, and winning the famous Harry Vardon Trophy.

A year after GolfSixes was first introduced in 2017, the event broke new ground when the event welcomed Ladies European Tour players to become part of the competition.

In 2021, the Scandinavian Mixed took the idea of a mixed event set-up a step further. Demonstrating a desire to create more equal opportunities in golf, the Tour co-sanctioned the historic event in Sweden with the Ladies European Tour.

Scandinavian Mixed-1233432257

The field comprised 78 men and 78 women playing in the same field for one trophy and one prize, while there were also Official World Ranking points on offer for both Tours during both a Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup year.

After the Covid-19 pandemic forced its intended first edition in 2020 to be cancelled, the event returned last year, hosted by Swedish golf superstars Henrik Stenson and Annika Sorenstam.

There were further milestone moments as Caroline Hedwall became the first female in history to hold the solo lead in a DP World Tour event following a second round 64, before Alice Hewson claimed top female honours with a third-place finish behind winner Jonathan Caldwell and runner-up Adrian Otaguei.

The event will return in June this year, at Halmstad Golf Club in Sweden, with Henrik – named Europe Ryder Cup captain in March – and ten-time Major winner Annika back again as hosts.

Press Release

The DP World Tour and the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) today announced a long-term partnership aimed at developing golf in the United Arab Emirates for at least the next decade.

The two organisations will collaborate across all levels of the sport in the UAE, from grassroots initiatives right through to the professional game, building on the Tour’s long-term association with the region which dates back to 1989.

Today’s announcement includes a commitment to investing in a minimum of two Challenge Tour events in the country annually from 2023. There will be 30 spots in each of those tournaments allocated to the Emirates Golf Federation to help create playing opportunities and provide a pathway for Emirati golfers.

The partnership also includes an expansion of the Tour’s support of junior golf development in the UAE, working together with the Emirates Golf Foundation to help enhance its grassroots and player performance programmes.

The European Tour group, which incorporates the DP World Tour, Challenge Tour and Legends Tour, first visited the UAE in 1989 for the Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club.

Since then, the European Tour group has enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship with the UAE, which was underlined last November when DP World, the Dubai-headquartered provider of global smart end-to-end supply chain and logistics solutions, was named as the title sponsor of the group’s main Tour.

Alongside a record total prize fund for 2022 and minimum purses of US$2million for each solely sanctioned DP World Tour event, that announcement also promised an enhanced commitment to grassroots golf, particularly in the UAE, and significant investment in the Challenge Tour.

Rafa Cabrera Bello, the Ryder Cup player and four-time DP World Tour winner, added: “I’ve been living in Dubai for more than six years now and I’ve been collaborating with the EGF on a number of different things to help to grow the game in the region. My door is always open to help.

“Over the last 15 years since I’ve been coming to the UAE with the Tour, I’ve seen the courses get better and better, the events get bigger and bigger with more and more top names playing in them. So, we are getting it right and it’s just a matter of time before we see a top player come from the UAE. They have all the facilities and infrastructure, and golf is becoming more and more popular with the kids.

“The EGF is trying to support that rise as much as possible and to have this partnership with the DP World Tour can only be a good thing and it will help grow golf in the region.
