John Deere Classic
Thursday Jul 11- Sunday Jul 14, 2013
TPC Deere Run ∙
Silvis, IL
Canadians Brad Fritsch MC 73, Stephen Ames MC 76, Mike Weir T27 -12 69 69 67 67, David Hearn 2nd -19 66,66 64 69 (lost in playoff)
Round 4 notes
In the final round of the John Deere Classic from TPC Deere Run, Jordan Spieth earns his first title, shooting a 6-under 65 and winning after a 5-hole playoff.
Spieth, who doesn't turn 20 for another two weeks, hit a two-foot par putt to earn full status on the PGA TOUR and a chance to play in the FedExCup Playoffs. He makes his debut in the FedExCup standings at No. 11 and, as a bonus, gains a spot in the British Open field at Muirfield. He is also the first teenager to win a PGA TOUR title win since Ralph Guldahl took the Santa Monica Open in 1931
Spieth started the day six shots behind third-round leader Daniel Summerhays. But he forced his way into the playoff by holing out of the bunker from 44 feet on the final hole of regulation.
Spieth got lucky when that shot took a pair of fortuitous bounces. But he also put himself in that position with a brilliant final round.
All three players had their chances to make a playoff-ending shot -- with Johnson narrowly missing from the back of the green on a chip shot that clipped the cup on the first playoff hole.
Hearn also had a shot at the win, which would have been his first on the PGA TOUR, as well. But he missed a makeable putt on the fourth playoff hole

It came down to a New Zealander vs. an Australian in a playoff to decide the 15th annual Utah Championship. In the first extra session in tournament history, Steven Alker, from Hamilton, New Zealand, made a par in the playoff (on the 18th hole) to defeat Australia’s Ashley Hall. Hall hit his tee shot on the par-3 18th hole into the water and could only make bogey. The victory was Alker’s first Web.com Tour title since he captured the 2009 HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship. Meanwhile, it was another tough-luck loss for Hall, who fell to Ben Martin in a playoff two weeks ago at the United Leasing Championship
Will Wilcox was tied for 38th, 10 shots behind 54-hole leader Chad Collins. Wilcox went out and shot the Tour’s fourth 59 in history, making a six-foot birdie putt to secure his place in the record book. Wilcox finished at 21-under, a stroke out of the Alker-Hall playoff

EUROPEAN TOUR
Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open
Castle Stuart GL
Inverness, Scotland
Round 4 notes
Phil Mickelson went from agony to ecstasy to win the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open after a play-off with Branden Grace.
Needing just a par five at the last to secure victory in regulation play, the American uncharacteristically took three from the edge of the green.
That meant extra holes with South African Grace, who was already in the clubhouse on 17 under at that stage.
But on the first trip back down the 18th, Mickelson produced a stunning wedge to within a few inches of the cup and Grace could not match his birdie.
