After 36 holes Mike Weir has kept his lead 66, 68 -10 with 18 more to go today at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

That's the good news.. the bad news is the usual characters are back again.

Steven Alker 67 67, the amazing Kiwi journeyman, rarely a factor in his Tour years, but blossomed into the top player on the Champions Tour has tied Weirsy in the lead.

Then new guy on the block, 51 year old Stewart Cink who still plays the PGA Tour 70 66 -8 has company from the ageless Vijay Singh 67 69 -8 both T3

If you haven't heard from the 62 year old Fijian, remember he won the PGA Championship and the Masters in his career, also became world #1 ahead of Tiger in 2004 when he won 9 times in one year!

More importantly in this context he beat Mike Weir at Glen Abbey in a playoff that year to win our Canadian Open, and break the hearts of the capacity crowd and Canadians right across the country.

Singh who always has been a publicity nightmare, shunning the media spotlight unless he has to, apologized that day in his post round interview, saying " I really almost didn't want to win !"

Weir also had this same lead in 2023 before ending up T20.

Canadian Stephen Ames T16 70 71 -3.

Weather : 20*c wind light 10kph NW, no rain in the forecast.
