Silverman one Canuck who improved, Finau ties course record 62.. full leaderboard/ TEE TIMES

PGA Tour : Texas Children's Houston Open Leaderboard  Tee Times

If you watched the highlights from Friday's play at Memorial Park in Texas, first you would delight in the beauty of this public course in full bloom under a clear blue sky, dazzling sunshine on a warm spring day in Houston.

Next defending champion Tony Finau was out early while the shadows were still long and the course apart from the 1st and 18th tees was devoid of spectators.

With a new shaft in his driver, he reminded us all of how good these guys are especially when in form. He just pounded the driver with a little fade over 325 yards time after time rendering the par 4's to wedge approaches, hit towering high shots, low stingers, sweeping hooks when needed, and putted his brains out making 3 from over 25 feet, chipped in once and made it all just look so damn easy with -8 62 tieing the course record.

He leads 69 62 -9 from, 2nd Argentinian Alejandro Tosti 66 67 -7 and 3rd Belgian Thomas Detry 70 64 -6..... Scottie Scheffler is in a pack T4 at -5 (65 70)
